Description Well, here it is!!
I am very proud of this one. I like everything about this one. From the lineart, to the shading, to the background; everything.
I still ask myself why I never attempted this coloring/shading style before...?
I'm very glad I tried it since the results are quite satisfying, and it went faster than I thought for a first attempt.
I will definitely rely on this technique more often.

It really does remind me of Metroid II(or even the first game) though... the older instruction booklets had water-color like illustrations and concept art thrown in beside the actual in-game screenshots, and this really has that same feel to it I guess.. The artistic sort of background is interesting as well, doesn't need to fill the usual rectangular image shape, and it just looks nice. Great way to come back suddenly, very nice!

Thanks!
Honestly, I've never even seen the instruction booklets for either of those games.
The NES cartridge has pixel art (like all the other NES games) and the GB game has the ONE concept art on the cartridge. lol
But I know what you mean, if memory serves me right the Varia Suit had a warm(er) color scheme, with the oranges bordering on red or orange-red, and that's how this one turned out. Not intentional at all, but I do see the resemblance there... I would even go as far as saying that the Super Metroid cartridge art has a similar color scheme as well.
As far as the background... well, I am extremely happy with it. Though I admit I was inspired by other pieces I've seen around with similar touches. I always wanted to try something like this and for a first time I would say it's quite good.
Thanks for the feedback, Magnus. You and Bowser are two of the few artists that keep on coming back, even though I disappear for months at a time...
Thank you!

I think the cover for the second iteration of Metroid did have concept art, aside from Nintendo's first run of 8-bit styled box art.. but I never saw it myself really, just online. But the instruction booklets are a different matter altogether, they're of course filled with concept art. And haha I know actually, Bowser's one of the few who consistently comment on my work so I know he keeps up with other artists as well... I think it's how so many people know him really, which is great that he can I'd say.. Glad it all worked out!

I never saw that one, my copy of the NES Metroid had the pixel art on it...
and sadly I never owned a brand new copy, so I've never seen the manuals. lol
thanks again!

Well done dude, well done.

One gets a sense of a bit of a nostalgic throwback vibe going on with the style, especially the shading/highlights that capture Samus in her original element. Certainly doesn't hurt that you packed some slick pose-work into the combination, mixing it up with a simple yet sweet backdrop that centers in on the star of it all. Probably your best yet, I'd say.

Keep it up!

Thanks dude. Funny thing my brother said a similar thing to me about how this piece gave him a bit of a "retro" feeling, so I guess it must be true.
Even Magnus made a comment about how this one reminded him of Metroid II. Lol
Thanks a lot though. I did have a great time creating this one and I'm very satisfied with the final result!
