Update: I was not quite satisfied with the colours and background quality, so I got to work on it again. I added a lot shading and detail to the sky, added some texture and gave it a more sombre, worn look. I like it much better now; I hope you do, too.

Pencil and ink drawing, loosely based on a sketch after a comics cover; photo manipulation on background, digital colouring using corel software.

I had the drawing finished for about 8 months now and had to finish it as a piece now for some reasons. Originally I intended to add more detail to the battlefield, which would have led to a different image format - but that's history now.

This might be the aftermath of the Battle of Maldon - or any similiar conflict somewhere between 700 and 900 CE.
