Description This WAS my favorite painting until I messed it up trying to put on the glaze....... I wish the quality were better. It actually looks pretty good in person if you don't get too close and see the glaze lol

acrylic on canvas 18 x 20

This is my fav, for now, of your works.
There's a semi-minimalist
and nouveau-van-gogh-ish color palette
thing going on here...

It is one of my favorites too, and then I tried to varnish it and messed it up.  You can't really see it when it's hanging on the wall unless you get close up.  I haven't used varnish since, except in spray cans.  lol

Thanks for the comment!

I love the colors! The yellow and the red/brown really complement each other. The texture of the grass is very nice, as well. I'm sure it looks wonderful in person. Well done! ^_^

I love these colours. Looks like calm and peaceful meadow to lay on. If it already look good here (even though the scan or photo quality) I bet that in real it must look just great.

PS.I had same problem with arylics and glaze varnish. It always turn too shiny even though the varnish is supposed to be matte (or how its named). So I stopped to use it till I find good, not shiny one. Or maybe I just cant use it properly...

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment, I appreciate your words.

I'm like you, I think maybe I haven't learned to use the glaze properly. I started using spray instead. lol

meregoddess In reply to small-worlds [2010-12-22 16:30:26 +0000 UTC]

No, I'm an orchestra teacher. My artwork is self taught, which would explain the lack of technique as I was told by an art teacher here. lol

small-worlds In reply to meregoddess [2010-12-22 16:34:30 +0000 UTC]

hey, we don't have all the chance to study art. I'm also self taught. Though I am a graphic designer, these days they don't teach you anything about art; graphic design is today all about photoshoping women magazines and making stupid commercials for McDonalds. stuff like that. no drawing AT ALL

meregoddess In reply to small-worlds [2010-12-22 18:47:53 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Traditional art is on the side of the highway now for sure, but I still love doing it. But I must confess I also like graphic art, I think it's amazing what they can do.

It still looks really good, glaze problems or no glaze problems. Sometimes we are our own worst critics.
The perspective and placing is great; the far trees echoing the near ones. There's something comforting about it. (and this from someone who hates the colour yellow!)
