That was kinda the concept, I think... I wanted to do something humorous for the contest it was in.

Wow Merides this is really good!
You've done awesome job blended all the stock elements together and somehow - despite how surreal this scene feels - it all fits together and is actually quite convincing (from a surreal POV )
My only suggestion has to do with lighting: The portal/teleporter looks to be emitting a very bright light, but not much of that lighting is reflecting off the seated woman. I'd sugest adding some bright-blue highlights, especially on the shiny parts of her uniform.
Otherwise, this is awesome!

Thanks for the crit, Dan! means a lot to me! I'll try adding some highlights, see how that looks... maybe more of a soft glow, even, on the ground...

That looks pretty good - but the highlights on the girl almost need to be even brighter. I'm not saying they're necessary though. However, I do think you could add a few more highlights on her arm and her hip...
It's looking very good though!!

Thanks! I'm nervous about trying *too* hard at adding highlights- the ones I added seem almost too bright, fading out the actual costume of the girl... I think that's mostly because she's a 3D rendered character, while GIMP is a 2D program... I'm reluctant to try adding TOO much more... However, I do agree that it looks better with the highlights you suggested.

I know the feeling... Try using a fuzzy brush at 2% or 3% transparency with light blue colour. Just try it on a separate layer, then if you don't like it you can just delete it

That's exactly how I did the highlights... only I think I went with 10% opacity.
