edit: I've done some changes. I think I'll make this one bigger and get into detailing and refining it. I have some nice ideas for it I think.

Interesting picture with a good color scheme... but this book what series is it?
Tenescowri (which is an army of starving cannibal peasants)?? So basically normal people who last all their money, went mad, got together and now go attacking others all the whilst still somehow getting more to their numbers...

Great, great fantasy series by Steven Erikson:
[link]
The tenescowri are a horde of people who joined the Prophet for various reasons. Mostly they just got mad from the horrors of the war, the hunger and sometimes from the magic of the Prophet. I'm not sure why the others didn't eat the newcomers, probably if you join them and act like them, they're told not to attack.

Read the link and shall go look for it! I like reading fantasy and supposedly mature books... but sadly I am always disappointed with wussy writing and some human suffering that turns out to be a joke... then usually spend more time laughing then anything else. Mature means very little in my currently perturbed western culture and flawed rating system. "As indicated by the series title, Book of the Fallen, many people die, including major characters we've come to love and respect." As per that comment is the character maturity any good? Just how much growing with the character does the books do?

actually, one of the main features/flaws of the series is a really high number of characters. Some people (like me) like the variety. Some are overwhelmed or bored. I really really like a few characters, some of them indeed died. You'll see
If you like Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, you will probably like this.

Bah overwhelmed by a book now that's not me! I adore chaos or things that are like Memento or Baccano or how in some books they switch to different people every chapter and sometimes don't go ahead in the story but restart a part from a different character perspective.

that does happen in Erikson's books too. I liked how in the first book, I had absolutely no idea who the people were, how the world worked...In almost every fantasy book someone explains the politics and the magic system on the first few pages. Here it took two and half books before I felt I was starting to get the hang of it

Mahaps it took that long for you or it was just too little info to get anything until after two books...

Don't get me wrong, I loved it. My dad and my friends felt the same. It's the joy of uncovering the mechanics of it all that bring pleasure with these books

My personal favorite book of character maturity/getting to know the character is the farseer trilogy. You get to understand the character very well in his stated opinions, his growing up, adventures and failed love. I love it. The main character is described very well in the imaging area as well. I recommend that you go read it, 9 books in all.
