It is our sincere hope that we'll be able to offer Shouka playable as both male and female with our initial release of the game. However, this means almost double the work for our team, since much of the art will have to be done twice, and decent amount of the script will have to be re-written... so including both options *may* end up contingent upon how much money we raise for the game.

Going into this game, the development team played a number of Visual Novels and Dating Sims to get a feel for the genre. We quickly developed an idea of what we liked, and also compiled a list of things we wanted to do differently. In too many of these games, I felt that you were forced into playing the innocent young girl or boy who never quite knew what was going on in the setting and who was constantly being taken advantage of. While that's a perfectly viable character type, we really wanted to give the player more of a choice in shaping the type of character Shouka would end up being. To quote one of the team, we want to "Bioware it up."
