A while back I decided to try my own interpretation of the Kirin, basically a Japanese unicorn. I have pages and pages of sketches, starting from exact copies of ancient Japanese art and slowly evolving into this, my Kirin design. I had a lot of fun with it, despite how complicated it is. There's so much flowing hair, and all those scales! These are two rather dynamic poses, both based loosely on how Kirin are posed in traditional Japanese art. The one on the left is in mid-leap... it's probably a female, since it has no "mustache" whiskers. The one on the right is a male showing off his power... he has the whiskers as well as the strange little flame/wing things that fantastical creatures so often have in Japanese art.
