Description
I love these little monsters. This is a monster I've been developing for a little while, initially called pookas. My hunter character, Kalani, is terrified of these things. Wispwolf is just a name I'm considering for them because they aren't entirely pooka-like. They're much more malicious.
Wispwolves are reanimated skeletons of any canid-esque creature--wolves, dogs, foxes, and so on. They're all malicious, feasting on anything alive. The plague crow and wispwolf are animated with the same kind of magic, hence their similar appearance.
A wispwolf's favorite meal consists of anything bipedal and sentient--in effect, a human. When they consume the entirety of a human body, they can assume the form of that human. A wispwolf can mimic the human's exact form, save for one thing--their pupils have pinpricks of yellow in them.
Wispwolves are like parrots--they can imitate human speech in a scratchy "voice." They love to imitate laughter.
I referenced the skull from here .

A very interesting design indeed, for an interesting critter. My only problem with it is the legs; they're really too scrawny and would seem too prone to breaking. Otherwise, maybe look up some refs/tuts on decomposition; rotting flesh would aid the "reanimated" feel.

Thanks so much! Its legs are scrawny because there's only bones underneath (though I didn't say that in the description, so that's my fault). This one's a well-fed wispwolf, but as they get hungrier, their wisp fades and they're just a skeleton underneath. I'll definitely consider looking up some references for decomposition on a newly created wispwolf or something like that, though!

This is terrifying! --In a totally awesome, chilling sort of way. I love this design and "wispwolf" suits it.

Thanks so much! There's been a lot of behind the scenes designing for this little monster, that's for sure.

Quite a freakish beast; the appearance alone is frightening enough without their love for undoubtedly creepy and unsettling mimic laughter. Quite an awesome design and concept! 8D

Thanks so much! I went through a decent amount of concepts before settling on bones and smokey-wisp stuff. The hungrier they get, the more their bones show.

That is a pretty epic concept!!!
I just really like the smoke effect on the body and the green flames shooting form his face

Thanks! I wanted the smokey-wisp stuff to look like it was dissipating from its body.

that's pretty messed up. I love it!
I love it when there is a type of evil that can twist the natural world into something dark. I'm doing similar things with my works and it's pretty fun. (in a creepy way?)
They like to imitate laughter huh? So we might get a fantasy version of the infamous Laughing Scene from Evil Dead 2?

Thank youuu! Yes, I find creating things my characters have to struggle against makes things even funner (or at least, on my end).
And oh dear bajeebs, that laughing scene is pretty unsettling to me. I know it's supposed to be a series that's not supposed to take itself seriously, but that part got to me. :c

I think that's a good idea! I hate when I see something and the heroes are basically handed their victory on a plate and the enemies basically amount to a mere inconvenience. I like seeing the heroes (and heroines) be pounded and punished and even fail here and there until as the get stronger and grow.
That was one of the few movies that I actually find creepy. But that part made me laugh. I think it's because if some else laughs then I laugh too... I don't know why that is... but while everyone else was scared I was cracking up. O.=.o

I just felt like pooka wasn't so fitting anymore after I sat down and actually scribbled it out.
