Description

As long as Ophanim could remember, he lived on the steep, snowy slopes of Fenrir's Incisor. It was a place regularly enveloped in clouds, cold and with few residents or felvargian visitors. The terrain was treacherous for most, being a place of rock falls in summer and avalanches in winter. The young Ophanim had heard and sensed many fall to their deaths on the mountain while he remained under the guidance and protection of his guardian, Vuokko, the one tasked with making sure this life of Ophanim's soul wouldn't befall the same fate as his previous one...

While Ophanim had few direct encounters with other felvargs during his short life, as a resident of Fenrir's Incisor, he felt as if he could watch all of Ulfrheim. He could see the smoke rising from forest fires in the distance when weather conditions became too dry and could see flooding on the riverbanks when there had been too much rain. He watched the fireworks and festival lights of villages and ships sail out to sea. As the seasons changed, he could watch the bird migrations, north to south and south to north. Despite his isolation, there was much he did know about the world.

When a new year came, the first year of Ophanim's adulthood, Vuokko knew the once-small puppy had become wise beyond his years and if he was to learn more, or to use his wisdom for the sake of good, he would need to explore beyond his mountain home: the rest of Ulfrheim was waiting.

"Ophan," said Vuokko at the first break of light on the first morning of the new year, "The day has finally come, for the next phase of your life."

Ophanim looked at Vuokko with a small tilt of his head, his one flopped ear adding charm to his facial expression, "What do you mean, Vuokko? Next phase...?"

Vuokko nodded, "It's time for you to explore beyond this mountainous home. There is so much you could see from this perilous peak, but also so much more that you could not," she looked out across the vast, snowy landscape, deep in the middle of winter, "Follow me," and she leapt off into the snow with no further instruction for the young male who accompanied her.

Ophanim was surprised at first by Vuokko's sudden behavior. For his whole life, he had expected to remain a watcher of the mountaintop, living among the disembodied souls that resided there, but now... now he would have to leave the life he had always known while living alongside Vuokko's careful guidance. There was more to the world... and he was about to see it for himself; experience it for himself.

There was a sense of fear, but also a sense of excitement within Ophanim's burning, glowing heart, as there would be for any young male who was about to go on the first adventure of his life. His muscles tensed and rippled, his frost-laden coat trembling enough to send small particles of ice off into the diamond dust-filled air where white and rainbow-colored circles and lines sparkled in the cold morning's atmosphere.

"There is only so much I can see from here..." Ophanim repeated Vuokko's words to himself as he watched her dash down the deep snowdrifts below him. He then leapt after her, chasing her down the mountainside until he caught up with her and ran parallel to her.

New experiences, new adventures, a new life... a new Ophanim was born.

AAAAA I SOMEHOW FINISHED THIS ON TIME AAAAA. OPHANIM'S SECOND POC IMAGE!! I don't know what to say besides I love him so much xD And Vuokko joined in on the image for lore reasons! I wasn't sure how well the color harmony was going to work on this because I had such a light colored background in mind and Ophanim is a dark colored felvarg but it ended up working well! I was watching/reading a few things about color and composition lately and tried to apply what I learned here I think it turned out rather nice! A main thing I knew I wanted to do was make Ophanim's heart be somewhat at the center of an ice halo. I absolutely love dom bleeding heart As someone who loves painting glowy things and playing with light, it's the perfect marking xD And I love drawing arctic coated felvargs so much!!! They're so athletic and fluffy at the same time with wonderful curled up tails, I just...

Ice haloes are some of my absolute favorite things about winter and I'm surprised I don't use them in paintings more often. Maybe I'll do something with a more complex ice halo display one day

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this one! I sure did!
