Description

A painting I've had partially-finished for a while, I decided to finally finish it up and upload it! It's a scene of the trio Ooyuki ((left)), Vermilion ((middle)) and Kohoutek ((right)) who are traveling companions in my current Felvargs lore. Kohoutek is an esteemed assassin and Vermilion is an outcast who ended up working with him on some unsavory jobs. Eventually, they are joined by Ooyuki, whose guardianship was given to Kohoutek by decision of Umbra. Ooyuki appears to have no family, no home and no pack to call his own so Kohoutek and Vermilion decide to just have him tag along. Ooyuki is a pure an innocent young soul, so Kohoutek determines that Ooyuki will always be sheltered from the truths of their work, which is surprising to Vermilion at first because it seemed a little out of character for Kohoutek to wish to protect someone in such a way. As time goes on, the trio of misfits grow their bond together, but Kohoutek is much more in denial about it than Vermilion is, and so... Kohoutek just watches as Vermilion is always drawn more and more towards young Ooyuki's light as time goes on. Kohoutek believes Vermilion's clever, scheming side and his darkness was being diminished by Ooyuki's presence, and it made Kohoutek wonder if he should keep working with Vermilion. Perhaps, thinks Kohoutek, it'd be better if Vermilion and Ooyuki went their own path... away from him.

Little does Kohoutek know, he has already become attached and blinded by Ooyuki's purity. Even Kohoutek, a felvarg who had battled between light and darkness his whole life, who always thought the darkness was his correct path, could actually have a soul that yearned for the light.

Ultimately, the three stick together and Kohoutek eventually protects Ooyuki with his life at a later time, all while feeling guilt that the trouble Ooyuki faced... was actually his, Kohoutek's, fault.

"If it wasn't for me, Ooyuki would have been safe. His light wouldn't have been in danger...!"

I wonder what will become of their ongoing tale...

I originally did this background intending for it to be split up into four roll backgrounds but I don't think that style of art rolls suit me xD I ended up liking it too much as one wide composition. I'm not sure I've really done anything in this way in a while.
