~ Splachnum luteum, Yellow Moosedung Moss.This is probably one of the most beautiful moss sporophytes in the world,
though this picture doesn't do it justice.
Mosses of the Splachnum genus grow on organic material,
most often animalΒ droppings, but sometimes even dead animal parts.

yes, they are very cool! Mostly found on bogs etc.
They can be found throughout the world, like in northern USA, Canada, and in northern parts of Asia. Basically, anywhere far up north!

Just click them! I would like to see the red one, Splachnum rubrum, it's so beautiful!

Those are some remarkable species indeed. Thanks for the link! I just checked and there are none of this family to be found over here. Guess I'll have to put em on the wishlist of species I want to see

they are indeed wonderful!
Too bad! They can only be found far up north I think, but at least this one can be found in north america and asia as well!
In Sweden they are mostly found in the north as well. Can't see them were I live.
Have only seen this one, but they are all awesome!
