Thank you~ ^^ - though I'll be the first to admit some aspects of my shading technique could probably use a little work. XD
Nonetheless - that's a very kind thing for you to say! <3

So do you speak it? German I mean?

MessyArtwok In reply to LuxNiveus [2017-11-12 23:45:57 +0000 UTC]
Not very well~
I mean - I do know some terms and phrases - but I'm still pretty green when it comes to the language as a whole and being able to speak it fluently.
Honestly - if I were able to travel to Germany tomorrow (which would never happen but for this conversation's sake) I would be in BIG trouble because English is my first and primary language. I would almost definitely need someone to travel with me who knows both German and English to act as a translator. -.- But - that's where I'd run into an issue.
Honestly - I'd rather that someone I've had a chance to get to know would act as a translator rather than some random individual hired by a travel agent. But that's just me. :/

LuxNiveus In reply to MessyArtwok [2017-11-13 11:19:56 +0000 UTC]
That wouldn't be a problem at all. Almost anyone can speak English in Germany because we learn it at school. You don't have to worry about a tour guide at all here if you're from the Uk or the US.

I've tried that~ Apparently my work isn't in very high demand.
Which is fine. ^^ It may not happen today, tomorrow, or even 20 years from now...but someday...SOMEDAY...I'm going to visit the lands of my ancestry and learn things about my lineage that I never knew.
I'm going to meet distant relatives and share stories, share a meal or two - and maybe even make a few memories along the way~.
At least - that's what I hope to eventually have the opportunity to do.
In the mean time - I'd love to get a few pics! Especially from a local's point of view~ X3

Well - yeah I guess in some respects we do~ But - a lot of the truly historical places are in larger cities - especially on the east coast of the USA.
The only things close to where I live that could even remotely be considered 'historical' are:
the Jeffers Petroglyphs - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
the Birch Coulee Battlefield - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
the Mill City Museum - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
Fort Snelling - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
the Henry H. Sibley House - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
and the Minnesota State Capitol - www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&p…
Although - on an added note - I do live close to a location that has both historical significance and a horrifying history. But - I don't know if eerie things are your speed~ Yay! I look forward to it! ^^

And it is pretty cool~ I've only been there once - but it was pretty awesome. ^^ On that same trip I went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Science Museum of Minnesota.

No I haven't. Has someone really died there?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MessyArtwok In reply to LuxNiveus [2017-11-13 22:49:29 +0000 UTC]
Actually - 8 people died there.
All of them in one night. 2 adults and 6 children. They were bludgeoned to death by an axe.
According to Wikipedia - "between the evening of June 9, and the early morning of June 10, 1912, in the town of Villisca in southwestern Iowa. The six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned in the Moore residence. All eight victims, including six children, had severe head wounds from an axe. A lengthy investigation yielded several suspects, one of whom was tried twice. The first trial ended in a hung jury and the second in an acquittal. The crime remains unsolved.
But today - according to several who have been to the Villisca Axe Murder House, they say that the walls still protect the identity of the murderer or murderers who bludgeoned to death the entire family of Josiah Moore and two overnight guests. Almost 97 years later, the house's secret continues to draw visitors to her door."
According to many who believe in paranormal activity - the house is EXTREMELY haunted. Some even say it's possessed.
While I was going to college - the city where my campus resided was literally only 30 miles away from Villisca. And one night - my friends and I were goofing around when someone suggested we take a drive to Villisca to see the house for ourselves. My roommate didn't want to go because she's kind of a 'scare-dee-cat'. But me (not wanting to appear as the coward of the group) said I'd gladly go - that I wanted to see this place for myself. So we all piled into my friend's truck and went there.
The house is also a museum - and by time we got there it was long past twilight and the museum was closed to the public. But my friends were being ornery and trying to convince my roommate to move closer - something she physically wouldn't do and fought when someone tried to push her. Needless to say - while my three 'friends' were goofing off and being distracted by my roommate's exaggerations - I happened to look up at the second floor window of the house -
... to this day, what I saw rocked me to my core. My blood literally ran cold.
I could have sworn - in that moment - while the others were distracted and looking away - I saw a little girl peeking out from behind the curtains of the window.
NO ONE HAS LIVED IN THAT HOUSE FOR OVER 50 YEARS. I WAS LITERALLY LIKE -
I made a beeline for my friend's truck so fast, it wasn't funny. And they knew I wasn't joking because they said I looked WHITE - like I had seen a ghost or something...which...honestly....I think I did.

Abe is the name of the ghost that wanders between the two houses across the street from mine. >.>
No joke.
He's tall and lanky - kind of like Abraham Lincoln. That's why we started calling him Abe.
And yes - I live in a town that has apportions. But - given our towns history - that's no surprise. XP

MessyArtwok In reply to LuxNiveus [2017-11-18 20:00:44 +0000 UTC]
Well - keep in mind, in the early 1800s - the town that I live in was by all rights a boom-town. One of the largest in the region.
It was a quintessential stop for the railway that ran through the region. It was also quite well known during America's Prohibition as being an underground location for acquiring alcohol. That's actually why the train that ran through was called 'The Boozer'. It was known for both smuggling alcohol as well as transporting hobos.
It's not known for certain - but there is some suggestion in history that there were a lot of casualties that happened during the construction and operation of the railroad that was close to my town. Not only that but there were suspected deaths during two freak fires that wiped out main street and ultimately caused the railway to close and change. So - we think that Abe and maybe some of the other ghosts around town now might be remnants of that time.

You could be right. Have you guys ever tried to talk to the ghosts?
I mean- I tried to summon once and some freaky things happened so if the ghosts are already there then skip that step and go straight to the question asking! If the poor things are stuck there maybe you could help them- you know move on?
I'd try for sure!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MessyArtwok In reply to LuxNiveus [2017-11-19 16:23:37 +0000 UTC]
No, we haven't tried talking to them - they don't manifest often enough. Besides - Abe only really talks to young children.
But if ever given the opportunity - I'd definitely try for sure~ ^^
I guess my only issue would be that I really wouldn't want a negative spirit attaching itself to me and feeding me negative energy - you know?

MessyArtwok In reply to LuxNiveus [2017-11-19 18:10:43 +0000 UTC]

Though - I think any negative spirits would get sick of me within the first 5 minutes - I think I would be just too sweet and optimistic for them~ X3

I'd have opted to hit all the scary things with a broom but... maybe - just maybe - your idea sounds better. Let's try sweet and optimistic first. Then we burn it. :3
