This is my city.
I was here.
I know each and every street, my feet
have walked over every curb.
I know every alley, every porch. My eyes
have seen every sight.
I know every seat in Proctors.
My life is recorded in every set stone
on jay street. state street
has seen my every mood. The mini parks on
the end of the streets in the stockade, they
have felt my love. my spirit has circled the statue, my
heart belongs to this city.
This is my city.
I walk without fear, I could walk these streets
blindfolded. It is beatiful
at 3:51 in the morning.
I have taken every bus, I have biked every route.
The cracks in the road know my name.
Trees in central park whisper in my ear.
The city knows my secrets, and in return,
I know its life. I know its mood swings,
I know its violence, I embrace its reality.
I have walked for hours, alone, among
the buildings. when I walk, the gates, the
fences, the very posts sigh in recognition.
This is my city, and I belong to it. I have felt
every change. I felt the construction downtown,
I felt the MVP building rise. I saw the new streetlights
I felt every storefront being painted.
I feel this city breathe, I feel its life run
through my veins. I feel every raindrop as it falls,
I feel every storm that drops a tree.
I feel its disappointments, its excitement.
I feel it.
