with the rise of cybernetics in mainstream and popular culture, more and more people got their bodies cybernetically altered. it was inevitable that some people would eventually become undeniably obsessed with it. this unfortunately lead to the existence of cyber addicts, and eventually Shells.

as the name implies, cyber-addicts are people who became obsessed and addicted to cybernetically altering their own body for whatever reason they had. some thought that cybernetics made them beautiful, others felt a special kind of comfort and safety with them. some were scared of illness and sought refuge in a mechanical body, while others simply couldnt stop themselves from doing it. whatever the reason, they NEEDED to keep altering themselves; enhancing themselves. however, large-scale cybernization can cost a lot of money for some people. these addicts would sometimes resort to back-alley doctors and other shady individuals for cheaper, often "recycled" parts. they would be so obsessed with just getting the parts on them that they dont even bother getting them "cleaned". as a result, they would get full bodied cybernetics that are filled with viruses, malware, outdated software, incompatibilities, Ghost Data, and other irregularities.

eventually, all their "dirtied" cybernetics would start glitching and infecting each other. it would be subtle at first, but gradually get more and more aggressive as time went on, and as they got more cybernetics. things like hallucinations, involuntary movements and processes, and other things would happen. combine those with the even more powerful hallucinative / scary effects of ghost data, and life becomes hell for them; their brain gradually frying from the whole ordeal. but like a heroin addict, they just need MORE MORE MORE. changing cybernetics, adding more in this area, replacing other parts, taking away that one two THREE fingers and toes because they just got in the way anyway; they just keep going and going until they end up looking like a nightmarish creature that's nothing more than a Shell of their former selves.

these creatures, known as Shells, are the subjects of MANY horror tales, often replacing the zombie stories that were extremely popular in the early 21st century (though some prefer to stay traditional for the zombie stories). Shells are extremely aggressive and easily agitated, not to mention terrifying to look at. there are accounts of police officers and other people having to be put into therapy after investigating a home, only to find a completely Shelled person inside it.

anti-cybers (people who are against cybernetics) will often play up the scariness / horror and probability of becoming shelled in their many attempts of trying to get people to not indulge in cybernetics. however, a lot of people think that this is stupid propaganda, considering how many lives have been saved and improved with proper cybernetics. after all, shells only get that way after using too many cheap "dirty" cybernetics without even cleaning them first. however, some people believe the anti-cybers still for whatever reason.

this all being said, the government and cyber-doctors always warn against using cheap cybernetics without cleaning them first and getting any updates and compatibility patches that you would need. if you're going to alter yourself, be safe, take your time, and dont cheap out. it will be worth it in the long run.

happy late halloween everyone! ^^ lately ive had some mental issues with my ADD, so i havent been able to draw the past while :/ i tried doing a free halloween picture for facebook, hoping it would help me get back into the mood. and it worked pretty well, if i do say so myself ^^
