As I continue to dally on finishing the MLP project, I decided to post a little factoid I had been saving until I eventually... you know... finished the MLP Project but decided to draw now (since my art is improving).

Did you know that when I originally started this comic, my intention was to make the big bad an alien being?

The idea bounced around in my head as a few different things. I had considered a space alien that had crashed in Ancient Equestria, and then I thought of making it a living machine, and an A.I., etc. What all these ideas had in common, however, was that this being would have been the originator of magic in Equestria, and when it crashed, its power and its vessel leaked magical radiation that mutated and transformed the creatures of the world.

The original message Celestia recieved would have actually been a dream -- similar to Twilight's own -- that Celestia had received from the being as it was slowly waking up. She would have revealed it had been slowly regaining consciousness over the course of the past century and a half, and that it is near waking up -- and when it does, it will take back the magic it lost to continue its journey. The process would, of course, drain the life from Equestria and the world at large.

Starflare would have been working to fight it, because when he came into contact with the Dark Crown -- which was originally going to be crafted from a fragment of the ship itself -- he would have learned the secret history of the ship and its owner.

It ended up not happening because, quite frankly, other ideas came to me, and somewhere along the line I decided this might be too convoluted. Still, I liked the idea, and sometimes I wonder how different things would have been had I gone that route.
