Note: Just to be clear, the following is NOT a call-out to any DeviantArt User here and it is NOT a response to any DeviantArt User here either.
This is simply just a compilation of some comments that I made with some changes and some new information added in order to make it into a stand-alone deviation that is meant to be a rant not directed at anyone in particular.
Now with that out of the way, let's begin:
I am sick and tired of people demonizing good police officers because of the actions of their corrupt/excessively brutal counterparts.
1. No, the cops are NOT private, because they are a public service. Meaning that they do NOT get money from private sources, they get money from government.
2. No, the cops are NOT a military, because they are LAW ENFORCEMENT. True, they have a few similar tactics and a few similar pieces of technology to military, but the keyword is few. And they have different purposes too. Law Enforcement is meant to keep the peace. Whereas the military is meant to fight battles and wars.
3. No, the cops are NOT to protect the "ruling capitalist class", they are meant to protect ALL innocent people. True, there are a few corrupt/excessively brutal cops, but those are very few and far between and most often either good cops or internal affairs investigates and apprehends bad cops anyways. Plus, most bad cops go to jail/prison anyways thanks to good cops helping put the bad cops in there like they would any other criminal.
4. Most cops do NOT humiliate, dehumanize, and fuck up the lives of poor people. Most cops will help innocent poor people as best as they can. Most cops do NOT care if someone is poor, middle-class, or rich. What matters to most cops are if a person is a law-abiding citizen or a criminal, and how severe the crime is. So regardless of whether a criminal is poor, middle-class, or rich, they deserve proper consequences regardless of social status. And again, for the most part, good cops arrest bad cops, so any bad cop abusing an innocent citizen or using excessive force is apprehended if caught, just like any other criminal.
5. True, what happened to those homeless people due to those corrupt officers abusing their power, as described in that VICE article is indeed a horrible thing. But those cases described in that aforesaid VICE article are isolated incidents and NOT typical of police actions. Those corrupt officers who committed those crimes deserve to be investigated by good cops and arrested by good cops, then the bad cops should be in court, convicted, sentenced, and taken to jail/prison just like any other criminal should be arrested by good cops. And also, the key is to encourage even more good officers to report their corrupt/excessively brutal counterparts and to encourage even more good officers to investigate and arrest their corrupt counterparts as well.
6. And again, that same series of isolated cases from the Alabama incidents described in that VICE article has NO bearing on the actions of good cops at all.
7. Yes, it's horrible that those specific corrupt cops mentioned in the aforementioned VICE article got no consequences for their actions, and that is why good cops should get even more encouragement to report, investigate, and apprehend their corrupt/disproportionately brutal counterparts. And internal affairs should be encourage even more to stand up against the aforementioned bad cops too.
8. And yes, there are shitty anti-panhandling laws that lead to that specific incident, the solution to that would be to convince politicians to repeal those BS anti-panhandling laws so that similar isolated incidents like the ones described in the aforementioned article have even LESS chances of happening (even though cases of corruption like that are already rare to begin with).
9. In terms of police confiscating items from other people in general, a vast majority of those arrests and confiscations were done for JUSTIFIED reasons, not for bad reasons like what was described in the aforementioned VICE article.
10. And in terms of police arresting suspects, a vast majority of those suspects were arrested for JUSTIFIED reasons, not for disproportionate reasons. Most corrupt cops who wrongfully arrest people for things that are not even crimes, most corrupt cops who falsify evidence to get innocent people typically get arrested, and most corrupt cops who trump-up the charges disproportionately have one thing in common: Most of them get arrested and eventually sent to jail/prison like any other criminal.
11. Also, in terms of the use of police force, most cops use physical force for JUSTIFIED reasons, such as the suspect(s) violently resisting arrest, the police officer(s) defending themselves against a violent suspect or against violent suspects, the police defending citizen(s) against a violent suspect, etc. Most cops who use excessive force often end up arrested and eventually sent to jail/prison like any other criminal.
12. Plus, in terms of police officers shooting people, most cops use their firearms for JUSTIFIED reasons, such as shooting a violent suspect in self-defense, shooting a violent suspect in order to defend citizens, a suspect trying to grab for a cop's gun right after said suspect physically attacked the cop first, etc. Most corrupt/excessively brutal cops who shoot innocent people or shoot a suspect in a situation when using a firearm is excessive often get arrested and eventually send to jail/prison like any other criminal.
13. Lastly, in terms of police officers committing sexual harassment and/or sexual assault of any sort, that is VERY rare and, like other corrupt cops and any other sort of criminal, most corrupt cops who do THOSE sorts of horrible crimes are typically arrested and then thanks to due process eventually get sent to jail/prison.
To summarize:
Of course, the corrupt/excessively brutal cops are scumbags, that's a given, but even then those aforementioned bad cops are most often confronted and apprehended by both their good counterparts and internal affairs.
Indeed, there should be an effort to weed out the bad apples in various law enforcement agencies. And thanks to the efforts of good cops and also thanks to the additional efforts of officers in internal affairs divisions, the police are already doing a mostly very great job at that already.
The most important key is to encourage even more good cops to have the courage to stand up AGAINST and arrest their bad counterparts just like they (the good cops) would do against any other criminal.
With the aforementioned idea in the very previous sentence right above this one, combined with the fact that most good cops are willing to arrest their bad counterparts and that internal affairs exists to also deal with bad cops, all that combined together will mean that even LESS police corruption and even LESS police brutality would happen, even though it's already rare to begin with.
As another point:
The idea of encouraging even more good cops to have the courage to stand up AGAINST and arrest their bad counterparts is a great idea because if even more good police officers are encouraged to report and arrest their corrupt/excessively brutal counterparts and actually do so to their aforementioned corrupt/excessively brutal counterparts so that even more of said corrupt/excessively brutal cops eventually end up in prison, it would be a win-win scenario for both good citizens and good cops:
- 1: Because if more bad cops will be in jail/prison, thus the bad ones will NOT be around to harm the innocent citizens in any way, shape or form, and the bad cops will also NOT be around to ruin the reputation of the good cops.
- 2: With more bad cops in jail/prison, BLM will have even LESS valid points to stick with, thus they'll slowly lose the argument.
- 3: With more bad cops in jail/prison, it will also lead to a perfect opportunity to encourage innocent citizens to report BLM domestic terrorists because BLM committed riots, looting, incited violence against innocent people, and assaulted innocent people all simply over coercion for political means, and when innocent citizens report BLM terrorists, that will allow good cops to arrest BLM domestic terrorists. Thus, more BLM terrorists will eventually end up in jail/prison as well.
In conclusion, at least I brought a reasonable and logical suggestion to the table, and I'm confident that other sensible people can also bring additional logical and reasonable suggestions to the table as well. Those anti-cop elitists who demonize all cops because of a few bad apples, on the other hand, are ultimately NOT reasonable and also ultimately NOT logical.

The problem with the 'Cops are scum!' crowd are the same people who yell 'Why aren't the cops doing their jobs?'
This contradictory, hypocritical BS is what makes it not only hard for people to trust the police and call them when they're needed but also prevents people from wanting to become a cop.
What is happening to cops is the same crap that happened to Vietnam Vets when they were coming home. Instead of a 'Thank God you're back home and safe.' they got a lot of 'Go to hell!' from people.

Pretty much, yes.
Worst of all, people were incredibly elitist against Vietnam Vets at the time, and the same is happening to cops in this century.

Me too.
Yep, it's sad because anti-cop people such as Colin Kaepernick would ironically make great cops if they were not anti-cop (and in Colin's case, if he were not such a blindly loyal socialist sympathizer).

I largely agree with you. Something that doesn't seem to help, and what really frustrates people, is how cops who do something horrible often get investigated and are cleared of all charges and get to go on with their lives like nothing happened. The lack of accountability is frustrating and scary to people.

Fair enough. I genuinely thank you for being civil.

I'm usually civil with people if they are civil with me.
