Description
I found a long dry Brussell Sprout size birch burl so I decided to pluck it off and sand it down. I just wanted to see what sort of figure was in it. The photo does not do any justice since my cheapo camera can't take close ups. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. Every plane had a different look and all were interesting. I oiled it up and was even happier..deep rich hues came outI've always just passed up any burl that wasn't large enough to turn a bowl from. From now on though, I think I'll harvest them when I see them (Won't hurt the tree anyway) and use them for inlays and decorative trinkets! I'll do the same with some of the highly figured apple wood I came across as well.

if your able to cut the smaller burls into slices however thick your able to & glue the slices together to produce a block large enough to turn

I was thinking of something similar. Sandwiching burl segments between 2 pieces of wood. There should be a nice ring of burls with little waste.
