Description
Even though the cherry burl was rotten I decided to cut out the good parts for inlays and segments. Hopefully I can glue them up once they are dry. The big one is Basswood (maybe I'll try carving something with it. The "potato" is a Hornbeam burl that should be very nice once seasoned.Related content

no offence intended BUT your burl really doesn't have loads of figure in it---

None taken. Yeah, most of the figure has rotted away. I'm more interested in the dark black spalt lines that are left over. It's probably not even accurate to call it a burl anymore lol.

I just cut some Tulip Oak Buttress root & its full of spalting---but it's hard to tell unless you know as buttress roots are full of swirly lines anyway because of the stress

Yeah, I'm not sure it is spalted but it is full of funky colored lines.

I decided that the basswood burl is the perfect shape to carve a small Galleon. Long term project to work on while I watch the tube!

I certainly hope to! Some pieces have burl patterns and others just have wavy and highly contrasting grain. I can't wait until they are dry enough to work with. Some will split in the process but I have a lot in stock...about 4 times what was in the photo.

Lol. I am keeping some of the burl intact to carve a free form sculpture. I do need to get some carving tools though. You only can do so much with a hammer and chisel
