Description Out of context, this panel from an issue of the Invader ZIM comic series
could perfectly sum up Nickleodeon's cancellation of the Invader ZIM cartoon.

..and, let's be real. If the character were real, Zim would blame Dib for them being "fired."

[NOTE]

The date of Aug. 19th, 2006 is accurate for being the last known airdate of the Invader ZIM cartoon
(implying Nick booted out Zim almost immediately afterwards.)

Nonsensical TV Scheduling that caused minimum views, and led to poor ratings.

That was it. Dark Harvest, Hidden "Bloody GIR" images,
and even Dib's trenchcoat didn't get it cancelled..just bad time slots.

I feel ashamed that I don’t remember a single episode of the series...

Don't feel too bad. That was the primary reason the show was cancelled in the first place.

Not so much for the extreme content, but the insane time slots
that made viewer ratings poor, and that was really all that mattered to Nickelodeon.

That and the fact that the cartoon have things too scary for kids. Like the one episode where Zim stole the organs of other kids and put them in his body, or that one episode where a kid got his eyes ripped out from his sockets.

Given Nickelodeon hired someone whose resume included "Johnny the HOMICIDAL Maniac",
I am not sure what the Nick Executives were expecting from Vasquez.

As Capitalist would say: "You GET what you pay for."

I like dib, he is a good character. Unlike his replacement character they plan to kill him off, if they would have done that, I would have stop caring and watch the show.

Nick really did have the most problems with Dib, ironically.
from him not being funny, to finding his trench coat too controversial.

(But, Vasquez fought hard to keep him via their "God Save The Dib" movement.)

Personally, I like Dib just as much as I like Zim..which shifts depending on the episode.
This is because Both Zim and Dib have similar character traits, making them perfect foils for each other.

No one but Dib can match Zim's ego (which is the real reason for the "big head" joke.")

In fact, a cancelled episode even explored Zim falling into a depressive slump
when Dib temporarily gave up on the paranormal, and tried to be a normal scientist.

Point being that Dib's absence had a negative affect on Zim.

Yeah, they were planing to use a once shot character for dibs replacement, I believe it was the boy that got his eyes replace by zim, and appeared again as a background character in the halloween special, I don't think he would have gone the distance and he is pretty dumb, even with character growth.
