thanks, it took me 2 day to paint but I could have done a lot better if I had the time. I wouldn't had used drybrush. =I it's not a very professional technique and I could have done the shadowing a lot better if done individually. Glad you like it though ^^

thanks, it's a modified Hive fleet Kraken theme. I didn't like the messy-looking carapace on the GW models so i made it more red and orange. glad you like it!

for a while? but it's only been on sale for less than a month now lol. Or do you mean the Forge World one? Personally i think the FW trygon looks a lot better than the GW one, purely because they made modifications so it could be made into a mawloc too, which IMO looks terrible. D:

Thanks for the comment!

I saw it on forgeworld and then saw it when you could pre-order it. I love the model, and I really just want to paint it. I don't even have a nid army!

yeah, i wanted to paint it when the display version arrived to my local game store. Luckily i'm friends with the owner and staff so i could paint this before it was even released! XD and i'm getting to keep it for free

aww, that sucks. D: ours is a special store that sells boardgames, roleplay games, games workshop miniature games, comics, manga and all kinda merchandice related to the mentioned stuff. I'm pretty much a regular there so i know the owner and employees and i also help out a lot there so i have special privileges. ^^

thanks, it took me 2 days to paint it and the carapace was a real pain in the neck towards the end lol. I'm currently painting up my nids on this theme and once i get some of them done, I'm posting pics of them here. I have hive guard, venomthropes, new raveners and new gargoyles in base colors right now, they'll get done.....eventually.

haha, you should take a look on my older models (think i got pictures in my gallery) i painted some of those like 4 years ago. then you'll see how much i've improved. It's just lots and lots of practice. I have no artistic talent naturally, so for me it's just hard work and looking at other ppls' work and techniques, learn, try new things and improve.

Keep painting and you'll get better. i guarantee it.

you can practice highlighting on pieces of sprues if you don't want to use your models as practice pieces, and once you get better, put some nice highlights on them

looks like a fun army, have you played it yet? I just played with the new codex for the first time today. So far i really dislike the fact that everything can be insta-killed now XP

Np, If you need more tips, feel free to ask. I'm all for helping out.

Noticed you're a finnish metal fan, I'm from finland btw.

i have...

Space marines
Tyranids
Tau
Eldar
Chaos
Sisters of battle

all my armies are over 2000 points, marines and tau are like 6000 points each.

i also have a warriors of chaos army for fantasy battle, and i'm thinking about getting beastmen too.

that's cool. I have a bad habit of buying new models before painting my old one,s so i have a lot that are in base colors but need highlights, extreme highlights and details added. Those take time though and i'm lazy <<;

Thanks. I could have done better if i had more time but they gave it to me on friday and said it had to be done by monday But it came out ok I think, It's above average playing-piece quality but nowhere near a display model.

If I ever do Tyranids myself, I may well 'borrow' that colour scheme. It sounds nice and simple.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mew2cool In reply to Darkzeer [2009-12-28 18:11:34 +0000 UTC]

the color scheme is from the tyranid codex lol, i just improvized a little on the carapace color selection cus i thought it looked plain.

here's the technique i used to do the skin, i think it worked pretty well. It's very simple but it looks good cus this technique really brings out the detail on the models, which would take lots of time if painted "traditionally" one detail at a time.

Not a bad vid. Drybrushing is a god send isn't it?

I'm not back to work until next week, so I'm having a bit of a paintathon.

You can check it out on my blog here: [link]

Mew2cool In reply to Darkzeer [2009-12-29 13:12:24 +0000 UTC]

yeah, drybrushing works fine on tyranids due to the sheer amount of detail. it's not a very good technique on anything else from my experience and, at least where i live, it's considered a "Noob technique" and is generally frowned upon. You usually can get much more realistic results by painting the model traditionally.

Whoah, this is really amazing!! There's so much detail in it even at the base!

You did an epic paint job, nice work on the shading too. It looks almost real!

Soo pretty!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mew2cool In reply to Pink-Myotis [2009-12-27 01:27:05 +0000 UTC]

yep, 3 layers of paint on the base. :3 throw in some static grass and voila! generic base is generic! XD

but yeah, I really like how this one turned out, even though i coulda done better with the biggest claws, i just suck at highlighting claws D: also, my brain fell asleep while highlighting the carapace so some of the lines are not sharp

Thanks for the comment!

thanks. i worked on it 37 hours. 5 the night i got it and 13 on the next 2 days cus i had to get it done during the weekend lol.

and yeah, it's pretty big. I think it's currently the biggest Model on the Games workshop range. (not counting terrain and vehicles. It's a pretty impressive centerpiece for a Tyranid army. (crosses fingers in hopes of getting to keep it when they don't need it on display anymore)
