I really hate this misconception.Just because a girl's shy and quiet during school doesn't mean she's not going to giggle and the word penis and whine when her mom asks her to do something she doesn't want to do at home.
Shy =/= Mature. Get it through your head.
People say I'm immature simply because I'm not afraid to have fun and be myself in front of others. Maybe I am immature? Who knows. But when I get compared to total closet BRATS just because they're SHY and SENSITIVE to people they don't know, It just pisses me off.
brought up this to say from the other side of the argument:
"I'm the quiet type. I never understood why the teachers always think I'm paying more attention than the kids who talk. I hardly ever pay attention.
You're right, it's not fair."

If you're talking to your friends across the room, though, it's guaranteed you're not paying attention. If you're not making noise, at least the teacher can assume you're paying attention. And isn't that a good thing?

I'm mostly shy and quiet at first but once you get to me I'm all sort of immature!I have the mind of a five year old xD I feel like I have a healthy dose of immature and mature in me

That's true.
Once my English teacher brought up dildo Canada and my face turn bright red and I couldn't stop giggling.
Then there was another time when my math teacher pretty much called me stupid because of my quietness. Β

I have one problem with this: Quiet and shy shouldn't be used interchangeably.

It's true, in my opinion, people who know how to socialize and be responsible are the mature ones.
There is this ridiculously quiet girl in my class, and she is even more quiet than me(!), it's so annoying! Yet with her friends the stuff she talks about⦠I just facepalm...
It's nice knowing my teachers are aware of this. Especially Language Arts.

I'm very introverted and quiet, but I am EXTREMELY immature? My maturity is a eleven-year-olds at best.

Very true.
But it's not because I'm a quiet person, that I'm shy. I'm quiet, but I'M NOT SHY! Why people think I was shy?
Though I'm not afraid at all to share my opinion or talking with strangers. I like talking with others. I just know when I must keep quiet... So it's clearly not equal to shyness.
Doesn't it?

PSH. In life, I'm the shyest person you'll ever meet.
But I'm also the most immature person you'll meet. Another stereotype SHATTERED.

Mhm, this is SO true. You can tell I'm lost in my thoughts when I'm quiet and don't say a thing. But when parent/teacher conferences came around, the teachers always gushed about how I'm always paying attention. I just laughed and laughed when my parents told me that.

Yes, being quiet is NOT equal to being mature. But a mature person is quiet
I once trusted a girl who was quiet like me and it ended up bad has she turned out to be a total brat

Tell your mom or teacher that maturity means you're acting responsibly and using logic. I dunno how shyness got into that equatation, but you can still be quiet and not have the growing up sense (ie, letting mean people walk all over you).

I think it sort of depends on the person... but yeah, usually quiet people aren't completely mature... I'm really really quiet but I don't think of myself as mature because I just don't know. haha (Hence I'm probably not mature XD)

Quoting you "I just don't like that I get labeled as immature by people I don't even know just because I like to be myself" i feel identified with that, itΒ΄s so freaking unfair that people links being quiet with maturity.
I am SO faving this

Ugh. I'm far more mature than the people in my class, but I still have the maturity of a six year old. Just because I choose not to talk in class doesnt mean anything. I'd just rather get my work done so that I have free time during the rest of the day and then read once said work is done.... besides, my classmates are so shallow, why would I want to talk to them in the first place?

But I'm not shy, either... I have friends all over the country (i move a lot -,-) and will gladly talk to anyone, so long as they arent like most of my classmates... though Josiah is pretty darn funny.

>.=.>
I don't talk during class. Doesn't mean I pay attention. I don't disrupt important conversations between my parents. Doesn't mean I'm not in the next room breathing silently trying to eavesdrop. I don't always snicker at perverted jokes. Doesn't mean I'm not cracking up in my mind.
Just because somebody doesn't show it, doesn't mean they are mature. I can be quiet and shy if I want, but that doesn't mean I'm not acting like a 3-year-old in my mind. >.=.>
