Description i'm not sure this is a 'polished, refined, and completed work of art'... so maybe it belongs in my scraps...

but...

this is from a 'roll' of time zero i found in an old camera... it is, obviously, heat fogged... and past-dated... but i like the result... even it is/was unintentional...

on a 'sadder' note... given that the film line is now discontinued (and what little is still out there is very expensive), this may be my last time using this camera... unfortunately...

I am loving the effect and colors. This would not end up in my scraps if I shot it.

don't worry. They are coming out with a new sx-70 film. so this doesnt have to be the last time you use it.

its very expensive right now, but once it gets around im sure the price will go down.

i love the results of overheated film.

i was surprised by it (the effect of the old film)... but, i found it very interesting...

a new sx-70?... is polaroid making it?...

oh... and by the way... thanks for the fav... and the devwatch... both are much appreciated...

(grin)... that is kind of you... but that may be one of the urges you need to suppress... you know, like the urge to knock the speciality coffees out of everyone hands as they leave the coffee house/cafe...

Why is polaroid film so expensive?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mgilpin In reply to dynasourX [2007-02-12 02:40:18 +0000 UTC]

it is hard to produce... it, like most films, require very precise and careful creation in a sterile lab... additionally, polaroid's chemistry is most complicated than 35mm... it includes the chemistry for exposure and the chemistry for development... so, part of the cost comes from that...

and, to make it worse, because demand has dropped it is scarce... and scarce commodity always cost more... simple supply and demand economics...

dynasourX In reply to mgilpin [2007-02-12 22:44:04 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.

That's rather sad.
because I absolutely adore polaroids.
But I could buy so many rolls of regular film for the price.

Viva la expired film! This is certainly not a scrap. Its amazing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mgilpin In reply to ErinGibson [2007-02-04 07:11:25 +0000 UTC]

yeah... but i couldn't do it a second time... it isn't repeatable... and, for me, that somehow takes away from it... i mean, it takes away from it as a piece of art that represents my craft...

Man, i really like this, i cant quite put my finger on what it is specifically, I dont think it is a scrap though, it looks completely complete, this evokes emotions i cant describe, maybe its the vibrancy of the colour. Hmm, i dont know, sincerely, but i enjoy staring at it. *Goes to stare some more.*

I am ignorant, i apologise, what is time zero film? I loved looking, i should be thanking you! x

mgilpin In reply to NoTmUchofAsTaLker [2006-10-19 18:12:52 +0000 UTC]

time zero is a polaroid film... in fact, it is the original integral film... (a film that develop on its own, as opposed to the film that you let develop for a set time then pull apart)... it has richer colors... and the artist can manipulate the emulsion after it develops and before it sets... mgilpin In reply to NoTmUchofAsTaLker [2006-10-20 17:34:53 +0000 UTC]

it is discontinued... there is a little floating around on ebay and such... it is due to expire in november... and people are asking ridiculous amounts for the film...

there is still a polaroid film out there i could use (the 600)... but, the colors aren't as rich...
