Description Question/poll:
Naming this sculpture has been difficult for me, which is why i've always simply called it "Pregnant Sculpture" or "Preggers", and i think both of these names are far too blunt for a sculpture that is supposed to be evoking the beauty of the sculpture.

At one time i had considered the names, "life", "Life-bearer", but these names seemed kind of trite.

I would love to hear suggestions for the sculptures name.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A commissioned piece...a life size pregnant sculpture focusing on the pregnant female body as beautiful form. Finally finished in all her glory. Now its time to send pictures to the future owner and get her final approval.

The piece is hammered steel (22 gauge). It was hammered over an anvil, a railroad spike, and a dishing stump with a half dozen different sized/shaped hammers. The hammering is done cold. Heat is only applied between hammering courses in order to anneal the steel and reduce work hardening. The metal is mild carbon steel. The coloring of the steel comes from the torch during the annealing phases, and then the piece is waxed.

How about "Sacrifices for Life" or just "Sacrifices" because I think women make so many sacrifices when they have a child. anywho....absolutely beautiful scuplture!

The title could simply be Ema or Ina (meaning Mother, in Estonian or Filipino)

Thanks so much Shelley. "The Glow" is nice, and I'm still thinking about the name. Your suggestion is in the running.

Beautiful work! The patina is lovely too!

Have you considered asking your client what word comes to their mind ?

This is absolutely amazing work. I cannot even begin to imagine how much work went into this. And the accuracy of anatomy is incredible. Really nice work.

Name suggestion: The mother .

I often think that naming an artwok is helpful to explain or add value to the artwork, but in some cases like this, there is no need for a name. The sculpture is beautiful, powerful but yet fragil, just like life.

Well said, and at a certain point, just about any name i give it feels almost too obvious
