I've been reading Petshop of Horrors lately and one of the latest stories from the manga series I read was about a Kirin, it inspired me to draw this fellow. I sketched him and inked him in one of my classmates' sketchbook and decided to scan it and colour him in Photoshop. I don't know if there's a specific colour for them or not, but I decided to make him look like gold and flame.From what I read, the Kirirn represents the center of the four cardinal directions (in Chinese lore) and the yin and yang. I htink they are the coolest looking unicorn like creatures ever! LOL

*ahem* sorry about that. Now, on to the comment. Very nice job with the pose, and I just love the coloring. 'E just looks so fierce and regal. Beautiful job, I raelly like the light sketchyness to it. Not much else to say lol

Really nice work on the highlights on the scales and generally a good job on the coloring. I always feel a little disappointed when people scan in drawings and rework them in Photoshop, because it looks so, well, "slick" afterwards. Therefore I love how you kept the sketchiness with this one.

As far as I know, the Kirin is supposed to be shining gold. Very nice rendition, I picture them much the same.

Spiffy! If I remember correctly, the Kirin (or Ch'lin, I think) had something like this color scheme, and then there was another one that was greyish or brown...m'reh. There's another legend of the Kirin where they have the head of a wolf too.

In case you're wondering on their traditional colours, I think they have them in your How to Draw Anime book with the cat girl on the cover. I like your colouring better then the traditional though. Too many complimentary colours together as I recall.

yeah, ah well I liked the gold colour I gave him, and I think his colours go well with his dark orange mane and the different shades on his back go well together. =^_^=
