My roommate has a fabulous print of this in the hallway... I've found myself staring at it off and on for five months now, realizing that it's a work of fiction yet still stubbornly trying to *understand* how it all goes together. Heh, I feel for the anatomist!
Do you happen to have a planning sketch of what the beast would have looked like, un-'exploded'? Just so that I can... stop trying to figure out how all the organs pack together... LOL
This is a magnificent piece of art, appealing to the morbid horrific and the meticulous scientific all in one. Praise!

Really nicely done. if you still have an old version of this with the layers intact, it'd be a snap to set some of them to multiply and clean this up a little.

Saw this in one of my friends wish list and at first glance it reminded me of Abe (Oddysee).
I can see why The Last Dissection receives so many positive comments.

I am scouting for work for my Lost Book Club and Museum , and I think this piece would be a good fit. I wonder if you would grant us permission to post it in the club gallery for the amazement and edification of our small but growing audience. I thank you for considering this request.

"I have extracted this tentacle some five feet before the qualms of the unknown did strike"
Christ, the implications of that line alone are frightening

The tail and the proboscis had me thinking of the xenomorph from alien until I noticed the humanoid fetus dangling on the end. That's the big snag in all this: When you see that it's less "Shudder at the dark implications" and more of a "Wait, it's got a fetus dangling from its head? The hell? " reaction. As for the text I have to echo the "looks pasted on" comment. It's also a bit too uniform: it'd be all the more realistic if the text got shakier down the page, as if nerves, fear, and quite possibly alcohol taking their toll. Other than that, this is both a ghoulishly delightful, unique piece of visual art and an amazing piece of short fiction jammed into one truly awesome deviation

Really, a grotesque creature and a impressive work. It seems diffculd to do and the old paper effect is very good! The organs are real enough to disburb anyone's mind. This creature would do a good last boss....

Barely-Legal [2005-07-23 10:44:38 +0000 UTC]

This manip is excellent - it looks every bit an old and burnt page torn out of a neglected book. The grotesque-ness of the diagram add an undeniable squirmish feeling time after time when glanced at, adding to the whole horror theme and in doing so intriguing the viewer to take a closer look.
The slanted, fancy script is also a great, but I feel it looks too neat and computer generated to create the desired effect of madness or insanity. Maybe if you had written the text yourself it would prove more realistic, but I can understand you not wanting to that [it would take time and why touch an already perfectly fine deivation?].

Truly though, the whole piece is awesome, and it would be fantastic to see a series of pages ripped out of ancient books, all with different themes associated.

This is awesome. Its horrible ( in a good way) , with a divine tint to it, and quite creepy.

I'd hate to be in charge of dissecting fantasy creatures. I mean, who can be sure it won't simply sit up on the steel table and rip your head off? Not to mention all the extra bits they all seem to have. Acid glands, phase web pouches. Urghhh.

Great work.
