A present for an awesome friend ;oCRITIQUES HIGHLY APPREICATED
I finally got out of my art slump/generally everything slump a few days ago and I have to thank Tsutomu Nihei for that
Looking at his mangas are so inspirational (I read BLAME! at the beginning of the year and now I'm reading Biomega
) He's an absolute god at backgrounds and line-work. That said, this is entirely inspired by Nihei (not that it looks like it LOL) and it's the first time I've tried to draw armour (not sure how successful I am).
Inking in digital seems a heck lot easier for me than traditional (I would've completely screwed it up in traditional by now).
I'm not completely satisfied with it (tried to texture the background/armour plates and failed HAHAHA), looks a bit plain and struggled to find a balance for the black/white/grey but I think it looks alright (had to cut out some dramatic grey smoke & turn dramatic lighting that made no sense into white).
Oh yeah and-
this guy's hair is bleached white because he left the dye on for too long of some chemical explosion mabob (does not makes sense
). Not sure if this is what it looks like but, his natural hair colour is poking from underneath (black). Which is why he usually wears a helmet everywhere. USUALLY. If I choose to draw something else with him, you'll see what the sword looks like

Im not an armour expert, so I can't really give any good tips or anything (sobsob), but I kinda got lost around the arm area.
It took me a few minutes to figure out that the black thing there was not part of the arm or body.Is it a cape?
or armpit hair? (loljks)
lol, and the thing on his shoulder sort of looks like a hammer.
and it seems to make this guy lose his coolness O_O
its like ... I imagine this dude dealing with his enemy while holding the hammer, while the enemy has some dangerous looking gun. "It is time, to unleash my secret, killer move: the super hamme-" -BANG-.
Im just hoping that thing really is a sword, and not a hammer.... or else, as i have mentioned above: -BANG-
