it's okay... like with DA5, developing, and fixing all kinds of errors takes time... i'll try and wait patiently for its arrival

Beautiful work. I was randomly browsing the galleries to check out how dAv5 looked and I had to stop by and take a closer look at this. The smoothness and fluidity is gorgeous!

MichaelFaber In reply to FRACTALngosneb [2006-08-08 19:34:31 +0000 UTC]

Well there probably won't be any new variations in 2.05. it will mostly be bug fixes. this is possible to make in 2.04

PatGoltz [2006-08-08 09:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Stunning!

Did they fix the bug that makes it impossible to get correctly rendered images that have to be rendered in slices?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MichaelFaber In reply to PatGoltz [2006-08-08 19:43:20 +0000 UTC]

hmm. it shouldn't be impossible to render in slices in 2.04. there is a bug that moves your image over if you have camera rotation and translation, and render in slices, but yes, this has been fixed. another cool feature that 2.05 will have is you can set apophysis up so it only needs half the memory, and therefore less slices, and faster rendering.

PatGoltz In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-08-09 10:47:33 +0000 UTC]

I was getting misplaced images even if I didn't rotate the camera or anything. I'm glad that has been fixed, and I'm very glad for the faster rendering. I'd downgraded the sampling so it would render properly, and I can get 2.05 and set it back up, hopefully. I couldn't see any difference, though. Thanks for the info. Is 2.05 stable?

MichaelFaber In reply to PatGoltz [2006-08-10 01:17:20 +0000 UTC]

There are still problems with the prerelease version

PatGoltz In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-08-11 12:56:55 +0000 UTC]

OK, thanks! I'll let you guys play with it for awhile. I have other fish to fry at the moment. I have done a ton of images in Apo, so it's time to do something else for awhile. Right now, I just got back a slew of spectacular photos from my last two trips, so that's what I'll be concentrating on for a bit.

Very nice effect! To me it looks like a glass or perspex structure with a sunset in the background. Or maybe a Martian landscape

I find the the bottom right is a tad overbright and attracts my attention a little too much but that's a very minor quibble. Excellent work

MichaelFaber In reply to WelshWench [2006-08-07 21:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the criticism Gill. I really appreciate it. it is a little unbalanced, and has a touch too much overexposure look to it. it was really tough to get the two sides even though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WelshWench In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-08-07 22:00:16 +0000 UTC]

We've all suffered from hotspots, and that's when we're very familiar withthe variations we're using. For a pre-release work while you're still finding your way around it, so to speak, this is totally brilliant! I can't wait to see what you come up with in a week or three's time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MichaelFaber In reply to WelshWench [2006-08-07 22:04:06 +0000 UTC]

actually this isn't a result of any new prerelease features. it doesn't look like there will even be any new variations. it will mostly be bug fixes and a way to reduce the amount of memory that apophysis needs. you could make this with 2.04

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WelshWench In reply to MichaelFaber [2006-08-07 22:11:31 +0000 UTC]

No, Michael .... you can make this in 2.04, I could if I live to be about 107!

well, i was thinking about making a tutorial on how to create flames in this style. i'm not so sure i could make it straight forward though.

Give it a go! There are any number of people, with various levels of understanding of apo and how it works, who would be more than happy to beta test it for you.

Very nice work! I like this for the light and the shapes and the whole look of it.

It actually reminds me of photos I've seen of slot canyons in the Southwestern U.S. The colors and the light coming down like that...nice.
