not the red one

Of course the logotype simply represents the typeface, which can obviously be set in any color one chooses... I originally chose red for the specimens seeing as how Sumac berries & leaves turn a very deep red when ripe.

Hmm the typeface is a bit inconsistent; the 'B', 'D', 'J' and 'K' are too open compared to the rest of the letters, and the lowercase 'a', 'k', 't' and 'v' are quite unrecognizable. The remaining characters are great though, and certainly the title 'SUMAC'. It works brilliant as a logo. I love how the 'A' and 'C' seem to be designed particularly for each other.

I hear you on the inconsistency...and I agree there's quite a few
in there that need to be reworked. Indeed, those open letter-forms
are almost a whole new face in themselves...

On my end I've been particularly stuck on the 'Y' the 'k/t'
like you mentioned...and I'm sure there's a better solution for the 'a'...
The 'Ss' & 'Zz' scaling is also in need of some work.

Glad you're liking the set as a whole, and the name in particular.
Given that the primary building blocks are fairly consistent throughout
the typeface > that same 'A/C' relationship can also exist using the 'Q'
and just about 60% of the other characters.

I'll be posting an update soon when I get a little further into the character reworks.
Still got some #'s and punctuation to knockout...but we're getting there

Thanks a lot for the look & the feedback!
Cheers!

MartinSilvertant In reply to michaelspitz [2010-05-04 01:08:01 +0000 UTC]

No problem at all.

Oh and as for the 'a', why don't you rotate your 'e'? I think that would make the perfect 'a' for this set.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

michaelspitz In reply to MartinSilvertant [2010-05-04 02:31:57 +0000 UTC]

Excellent suggestion! I re-drew the 'e' towards the end so I guess I never made it back to the 'a'...

Quick & easy fix! Thanks a bunch!

If you happen to have any more thoughts on down the line, definitely don't hesitate to drop me a line! Cheers!

'B J K Y a t' >> Re-drawn

Feel free to check it out if you ever have a moment... Still not quite sure what to do with the 'D' but I guess it'll come to me... 'v' & 'k' still need work, but they're on the list.
