Description In a far away land, strange eyes keep the view.

This took me ages!
I've gone through about three different backgrounds till i felt satisfied with how it looked. A month of thinking/slacking went in between background number 1 and 2.
The girl was drawn by hand some months ago, inked, scanned and coloured. Decided after i was all done with the colouring that i didn't like the inklines so i had to paint over the lineart. I think it looks better now, but next time i'll just paint everything directly in photoshop. I still think the character stands out to much like she was planted there.
The background is all photoshop.
I might go back and change/add little things, clean up little mistakes if people point them out. But for now i've decided it's done (why is it always so hard to decide when something is done eh?)

Feedback is as always appreciated!

edit
Added more shadow to the back of the girl as the lighting was all wrong. I'm not sure if i like this version better ack this whole picture is getting on my nerves now!
Also added some little lights to the rocks because they looked boring, and tinkered with the clouds a bit.

No problem.. i thought you did a very good job on the sky and i particularily like the subtle highlights on the water.

The sky is always one of my favourite parts to paint but also the most challenging! Glad that you like it

Impressive! I like the shades of blue and the lighter values that illuminate the girl. It reminds me of the time I was walking by the beach at dusk...the tones of the sky and the water were so similar to the elements in this artwork. I also like the tiny orange lights you've added. And of course, you drew the girl really well.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it! Walking by the beach at dusk, i need to do that more. I love the relaxing sound of the ocean..the fresh wind, salty smell..the seagulls cry just before it dives for my head..uhm (I have a natural paranoia of seagulls, and other birds..i swear they look down on me! ) Yup! love the beach!

wow michelle, this is excellant!
you really can't grasp it until you full view,...but when you do the first thing you
see are those wonderful dark detailed clouds! then the shoreline across the bay with what looks like
a dim beacon from a lighthouse, almost creating a balance between it and the strange little character to the right.
and i wouldn't change her at all! i think the fact that she stands out provides a cool contrast between herself and
the rest of the piece.
very nice job M!

now,...let's talk about that avatar of your's for a sec. is that like the ghost of mr. bill or something? heh.

wow...well the time put into the background was definitly worth it. very pretty. one thing you might try doing is lightly blending the edges of the girl into the background in photoshop, but i dont think she stands out too badly.

Thanks! I'm glad you think so I think the shading is still a bit awkward but i'm not gonna mess with that part any more.
Thanks again for your feedback dear!

Wow, this is very lovely. The background is so striking, very lovely, epic feel to it. The girl does stand out... I think becase there is so much 'light' on her. She's dressed in white, but seems to be in full lighting, with very few, and not very deep shadows. I think if you added in some shadows, she would 'match' the setting more. Nice work, this is so very lovely!

Yea you are right, the lighting on the girl is very off. It's a good lesson to learn that i shouldn't start with colouring the character before i do the background I'll work on those shadows some more. Thanks for your input, very much appreciated

This is really good. It reminds me of some of the scenes from the Iron Giant.
