my first impression of the yellow river is that it's a solid sandy path.
but an otherwise beautiful scene.

Other people have said that too when they first saw it. It is still supposed to be a river though Glad you still like it!

I saw this when it was posted anew on *painters and it looks beautiful. Hard to tell if it's the sky reflecting off the water or spring runoff, but that's the sort of thing that makes a painting interesting to me.

gouache. tell me more about this? is this something like watercolors? comes in a tube? i've never used any.
very nice painting. you've been quite the busy little beaver haven't you??
heh.

It's sort of like watercolour, but the colour is stronger and heavier. Because of white pigment that is added to the paint to make it more opaque. Comes in tubes just like other paints. You can get very nice watercolourish effects if you use it with a very wet brush. Or if you use a slightly wet or dry brush you can get a solid and more covering effect, almost like accrylics. It's actually quite nice to work with if you are just a beginner, like me!

Your supposed to fail dismally the first time you try, it's a rule Just keep practising!
