Description
I have been requested to do a step by step tutorial on how to draw female anime characters so here it is:How to Draw Heads
1) Draw a circle
2) Draw a line down the centre (Centre of the face. This line will change depending on angle)
3) Draw 3 lines across the head, for the positioning of the eyes, nose and mouth. Also draw the jawline using the sides of the cirle and the line
4) Draw on the details of the face using these lines.
5) Draw the final outline
6) Erase/hide the sketch lines (Traditional/digital)
How to Draw Bodies
1) Draw the upper torso as shown, using the upside down U shape to get the shape of the rib cage.
2) Draw the line for the spine, and draw the joints and bones of the arms in the pose of your choice.
3) Flesh them out with sausage-like circles, keeping the shape of the circles true to the real shape of arms (i.e.: Keeping the elbow and wrist areas thinner etc.) Draw in a box for the hips.
4) Flesh out the breasts by using the teardrop shapes I use above, and flesh out the waist. Add details such as the fingers on the hands.
5) Draw the joints and bones of the legs in the pose of your choice.
6) Flesh out the legs in the same way as you did with the arms.
7) Draw the final outline.
8) Erase/Hide the sketch layer (Traditional/digital)
These basic instructions work for drawing men also, but keep in mind the differences in the male form compared to the females as I explain in this tutorial: [link]

Hi! Thanks for this helpful tutorial! I'm a beginner at drawing manga and this really helped me understand body proportions a bit more. (Because I really couldn't get the size properly!) I've made something but I know it isn't perfect. However it's much better than my original attempts before looking at this tutorial! Here's what I did: fav.me/d9tjitu

Having so much trouble ;-; My lines are sloppy and I can't even draw the circle properly...
I got a drawing tablet and all i've been drawing is eyes ;~;...
I want to practice drawing heads with this but I can barely even draw a circle with one neat line like you did.
[Lack Of Determination Intensifies] Any comments...?
(I'm using Paint Tool SAI btw, and I use a drawing tablet /w pressure pen to draw)

Do you zoom in when doing your line art? The key is zooming in when working on your lines. I do the line art bit by bit, zoomed in pretty damn close. It allows you a lot more precision than if you were zoomed out and doing it.
It's not like using a physical pen or pencil on paper. Drawing tablets are a lot more sensitive to tiny shakes in your hand, so you really need to zoom in on your work while doing line art in order to get that smooth line. Either that, or fiddle about with the brush settings on MangaStudio/Photoshop to cause error-correction if it's available.
Hope this helps!

Everyone has trouble with bodies. They take a while to master. Won't take you long to perfect it though

o.o I can finally draw humans I don't crumple up and toss now. Like really, you have helped me deal with an issue that has annoyed me for years (: Thank you!! (I just can't always get the head right...)

Ah you'll get there. If you can master the body, you can master the head. The head is very hard to draw. Even I don't always get it right. Glad I could help!

is it just me or is the image broken logo the only one showing up?

That happens sometimes on this site if the image resolution is quite large.
If you maximise it, it should show up. I think it's to do with the dimensions and size I made it.
Thanks for stopping by!

Very nice tutorial I sketch similarly the way you do but I think the extra circles and basic shapes can help me out. Many many thanks
