The full name is the Finned Awakashi, a large predatory insect. It's in a rearing up pose "obviously it wouldn't sit like that on just a few legs" It's a blind creature that uses extra sensory organs glowing on the side of the body to sense rhythmic vibrations in the air and from any surface texture it's touching. It's impossible to hide from this creature because even if suspended in air without trying to move, you're always constantly sending out an impulse of vibration, through breathing, through your heart beat..

This is why birds are an easy target. The rhythmic beating of their wings as they fly by, with the Awakashi waiting patiently make them easy to hone in on. With a quick motion, they're snatched by the longer antenna-like pincher's located at the frontal lobe of the Awakashi.
