Description
I don't have much to show, but, I want to give a lil gift as a 'thank you' for those who reported the art thief in Newgrounds...It's not really useful, but, I just hope i'm able to show some things for people to learn... It's recommended to know how to use Photoshop and AfterEffects first before looking at it...
I've also added an animated gif showing how a scene was prepared element by element... (Click 'Download'... 6mb tho)
Video: [link]
Edit:
'Kay, i tried counting and the total frames are approx 964... (that excludes the frames for non-animating elements)
Edit2:
Due to sudden changes DA implemented regarding GIF files with preview image, I decided to remove the gif to make the tut show up again

Just curious, what tool do you use to make the "darkness on the sides" of the frame?

I have a question. Is the MOV file transparent that you can layer the animations? The girl and the boy are on different layers. Or do you have to filter out the background colour?

umm i saw your animation today while going around youtube
it was the best animation i've seen before and when i tried looking
for it on deviant i found it i think and so i found this and started reading it
and it looks hard to animate this
How long did it took you?
and one more thing the gift tht she gave him was it his arm or her arm?
cuz i was thinking maybe it got cut off and landed on the other side of the glass
where she was and she tossed it over or did she do the same thing and gave
him her arm. can u plz answer ty

She had her arm removed and gave it to him, which is why at the end of it all, he has a pink/yellow arm rather than a blue/purple one.
and also, he said how long it took in the artist description here on dA..

Where did you get the music for this? DA seems to be really strict on having music in animations.

you are soo epic and amazing and that video is adorable and... just awesome.
this is a bit confusing (*mostly because I don't use Photoshop. I use gimp...because it's free and i haz NO money.) But it does show how much work you put into the video and it's beyond words impressive.

LoD94 In reply to ami46 [2011-12-09 23:57:10 +0000 UTC]
You could try making a large animation in Flash by first setting the canvas size and then create the animation either by using Flash's timeline, and actually drawing the thing in Flash, or by using Flash's timeline but making the actual drawing in another vector drawing application, like Illustrator. No actionscripting is really required, but bone tool requires Actionscript 3.0 to be in use. The document can be switched to Actionscript 2.0 later on, if needed (but that requires poses made using bonetool to be flattened and made non-dynamic). If you haven't already, you should also check Flash's Motion tweening abilities.
A bit time since your original message, but I'm pointing this message to all the ones reading this page. Including Mike, if he's still using *cough* Photoshop to make his animations (I hope he's not). No offence tho, the final result of "Draw with me" was superb IMO, it's just that... To me, making a long animation mostly in PS is like... stabbing yourself in the name of hard work.

I've used adobe flash to make a small animation after i wrote you this ^^ but i couldn't learn all it's secrets and it wasn't that advanced program but must learn as a start! and i've tried useing bone tool but it didn't give the result i needed so i made all the drawing "traditionally" . this discussion was one of the worst one I've ever made cuz it took me ages and the result was really bad!! but gotta fail at first time .____.
thank you for replying and i'll work harder and start learning After effects ^^

LoD94 In reply to ami46 [2011-12-24 20:30:08 +0000 UTC]
I'm glad if I helped even a bit.
I haven't really used After effects - I should, but I haven't - so it's kind of hard to say anything about that except I guess it's awesome.
But still, if you want to tease yourself with more professional (defined by a) features b) price) software, you might want to check Toon Boom Animate as example. As said, I'm not an animator, that was just the first Google result I got, and it looked kewl.
