Description
Hey guys,So recently I've been working on an eat3d tutorial teaching people how to get hard surface results similar to that of a traditional 3d package. It was just released so I figured I'd upload it.
You can find the tutorial here:
[link]
The tutorial covers a bit of the concepting, reworking, sculpting the final model, rendering with Vray, and compositing in Photoshop.
As for the design, I was very inspired by the Marine and the Firebat from Starcraft 2. I enjoyed that game a lot and loved the designs so i wanted to achieve something similar. Also I was trying to focus on maneuverability of the character it self. I wanted to create a mech that would have as little self collision as possible.
The programs I used for this were:
Zbrush - For the model and sculpting
3ds max with Vray - For rendering passes
Photoshop - For compositing
Also the DVD covers a bit of compositing to show you the basics of how to achieve a final image like this.
Anyways, please enjoy and I hope you like it!
Edit: Daily Deviation!!! Oh my god thank you so much to ^artofkerem for featuring it!!! Thanks to all those who favorited and commented on it. It means so much to me

If it wasn't for the smooth reflections I'd swear it was a miniature.

Wow not only is this amazing but the fact you sculpted it in zbrush makes it even more badass!

One of the things I like best about 3D renders of metal objects--especially armor--is the ability of the artist to add "wear and tear" and make it look realistic. Never having done 3D anything myself, I would think that adding such little touches like the paint fading around the front of the boots and around most every other edge would take quite awhile.
I think it really pays off though, and this mech really benefits from it

Thanks a ton! You're right for me it's actually one of the most enjoyable parts, because it's during this process that you can really bring the character to life! Thanks <3

There isn't really one worth looking at XD. it was made purely in zbrush so the meshes are very messy and VERY dense. It'll just look like a point cloud. XD

I definitely thought this was a clay sculpture photo when I firs saw it. That is insanely amazing! And then I thought "It would be amazing if someone could cosplay that."

It would blow SO many other mech cosplays clear out of the water.
