ive been trying to come up with an idea to do a udk level on my personal time at home. take it from concept to finish. ive done it before for work but not personally. im looking to do something sci fi. something epic in scale. and fun to walk around in. im thinking this is a deep space monitoring station. some kind of massive construction is suspended above a crater by cable. maybe its a space ship as well with thrusters on the bottom. i thought i'd suspend it to create drama and tension. im not sure if the crater was made as part of the construction of the facility. im leaning to yes. let me know what you think. improvements?Related content

personally, I didn't actually notice that it was suspended until reading the description. I think it's a brilliant idea, especially for a research facility! being able to monitor that particular ecosystem from above, without ever touching the ground, makes a lot of sense. I think to properly convey the tension and drama you speak of, though, the crater would have to be deeper. really give the viewer a reason to feel a touch of vertigo, in sympathy for the impressively built construction.
Also, I like the idea that the crater was already there, which is why they built this expensive piece of equipment the way they did. It also makes sense when considered along-side the topology of the surrounding area. It would be difficult to re-rout the rivers like this if the hole was constructed. If it was natural, though, not only would rivers like this make sense, but the hole its self would be explained, as this many waterfalls would naturally carve the structure deeper as time went on!

thanks for the great comment! very thoughtful. yeah this perspective is not too clear i admit. i agree a truly epic crater would enhance this idea. im also thinking it was already there too. hopefully ill do some more concepts soon that will do this justice. maybe tonight!. really, thanks for the excellent comment! -mike
