Description
"Attention all Cybermen! All survivors of Mondas and Earth Invasion stage one shall receive a mandatory upgrade! We must adapt...we must proliferate... we must survive!"I alays thought it would be a cool idea to have a story where we see some of the different versions of Cybermen interacting with each other, or cannibalising each other to create a new 'race' of Cybermen. Here the surviving Cybermen from 'The Invasion' and 'The Tenth Planet' upgrade themselves into the streamlined 'Wheel in Space' version.

Pretty cool, but I always envisioned gore and flesh under that silver body, maybe a meaty face under that cloth, but this is still cool, maybe that chest gizmo pumps steroids into them!?!?

Nice
Have you ever seen the Cyberman book which was made by david banks in 1987 the proliferation page was very interesting.
I don't know if you've been watching Nu-Who But I think the CyberNomads may have teamed up the the Cybus-men to create the Cyber-Legions/Cybus-Legions.
If you look at the Cyber-Lord he is similer to the cyberleader in revenge of the cybermen except the leader didn't have the brain sticking out.

I referenced that very book in drawing this picture!
I think the 'Cybus Legions' come from a time long after any of the original Cybermen from Classic Who. My take is that they originate from the same army that got sucked into the Void at the end of season 2. Like the Cybus-men from 'The Next Doctor', they must have found a way out somehow and then scattered themselves through time, with some ending up in Ancient Britain ('The Pandorica Opens') all the way through to the far future when 'A Good Man Goes To War' takes place. I don't think the Mondas and Pete's World Cybermen have ever met.

They seem to have split into different factions and types.
Cybus-Men ----- Cybus-Nomads (Blood of the Cybermen) ------- Cybus-Legionaires.
It would be good if somebody did a proliferation of their time contunation.

nice idea, I do not recall if the "alien Cyberman" stil exist in the current Whoniverse, but I think the two versions (parralel Earth) and classic aliens colliding and maybe upgradeing could be also an interesting thing...

They were last seen being destroyed by Sylvester McCoy if memory serves. Still, death is a temporary affliction in the Whoniverse so I'm sure they'll be back.

The Cylons and the Borg owe a lot(!) to the Cybermen. The world of sci-fi TV is a small one and there's no way the writers of BG and ST:TNG weren't aware of them. There was a bit of modern Cylons upgrading the original 1970s models in the remade series.
In fact, the whole Trill symbiant new host body/personality thing from DS9 was also influenced by time lord regeneration I think.

Emotionless, machine adversaries just make great baddies because they're relentless and impossible to reason with. Pretty much every sci fi space opera has them in some form.

The "Tenth planet" versions really are the most unnerving of the lot - I think it's the fact you can just make out some of the features of the face underneath. They kind of make me feel sad....great idea for a pic though, I'd be interested to see this elaborated on a bit more

There is something very macabre about them, yes-- they have more of a corpse-like aspect because you can see their human hands.

Unique idea there...considering that Troughton won't realize it until it's too late

Personally, I loved the old Cybermen - but I was watching repeats of Pertwee and Baker on a TV the size of a giant badger when I was but the size of a giant badger myself.
I remember the Wheel In Space episode - one of the last Cybermen arcs... if not the last, if I recall. That was pretty hilarious, the Cybermen invade a GIANT GOLD ASTEROID!
To be honest, gold as a weakness was pretty funny because it wasn't a particularly SERIOUS flaw. I mean, you'd think guys who are basically walking suits of armour would be a little more hardcore than getting killed by a glitter gun.
I liked the modern redesign but the origin story - I could take or leave. The old ones were great.

Not their finest hour, no! I do find the whole aversion to gold a bit silly, particularly as in later episodes Cybermen could be killed by golden arrows and (snigger) Adric's gold badge.

Yeah, they turned gold from a mild weakness into their kryptonite. Which was just silly... but then I suppose they wanted an easy way to off them...

I've always liked the "Revenge of the Cybermen" models best in an aesthetic sense, but there's a lot about this particular enemy of The Doctor that I don't know. What I do know is that I'm enjoying this line of artwork!

Well according to the terrific "Cybermen" guide book this did happen, though it was "The Invasion" or "Revenge of the Cybermen" models finding "Tomb of the Cybermen" IIRC.
