Description
This was shot the same time that Plusx200 did his"Keep Her Safe" [link] series. He shot his on Digital and I with film.For me the picture means something different..I titled it "Forced Belief" cause of the two blind faith institutions that he holds in his hand. Lately in America the military has become very similar to the church. Join, don't ask questions, I'ts for the better good, only god has the answer. Scary how they both end up screwing those who believe in them.

I really like the compostion of this photo but I have a contrarian perspective!!
Being a spiritual person myself it reads totally different for me....it actually screams ** PROTECTION **..I have faved and dl'd it.
Spirituality is about protection. So is the military.
Like any kind of institution
It can be abused in the hands of wrong people
Like freedom of speech........
Twisted irony tells me
that no one can force you to believe anything
You can take my body
But you can't take my mind
Everyone needs safety.
There has to be something to fall back on for your own peace of mind......

yeah i completely agree, ive had some bad experences with christianity, espeicaly about not questioning things, and ive had a lot of phycological problems stemming from those experenses, some how this picture makes me feel better, so i have to make it a fav!

This is an awesome picture but I don't understand how the church and the military screws the people that believe in them. That part doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It seems like a blanket statement without much thought.....

forced belief?.. somewhat an oxymoron.. wouldnt you say?... you believe if you wish to or not... no one forces you into church or the army... and even if you are forced into the army, your belief in it is not forced...

Technically, the photo is great. It gives a powerful message, even without the description. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it.
The meaning you put into the the photo is amazing. I agree, and I disagree with the message. I want to believe that it's not true, but then real life kicks me in the ass. I'm Catholic, so I've had trouble feeling good about my religion because of the priest scandal...among other things. As far as teh military thing, I hadn't really thought of the parallels until now. It's an interesting subject, which has brough out some good comments here. I'm glad you guys did this.

I like the photo, and I agree with the subject matter. I don't really think it's all as controversila as the send up says it is, but maybe I am just more along this line of thinking that most. And if that's the case, you have captured my way of thinking. or I responded to it like that. Lol! I have no idea what I'm trying to say, but I like it.

About the photo first: Love the focus and the great contrast in the background. I think I would have had the dog tag turned around so the religious preference could be seen. Maybe a more pensive pose in the background, too. Still love it, in any case.
About the statement: Like chesterfield, I remember doing KP on Sundays since I opted NOT to go to church. "Descrimination?!?!? Egads! I thought the US Government was supposed to be separate from the church, free of religious affiliation." Not on your life, folks!
While I lost my faith a long time ago, I am trying to raise my kids the way I was raised, with Christian beliefs and a solid moral base. But I don't take my kids to church, and we don't read the Bible to them. Why not? I have yet to find a church that will accomodate me without condemning me.

when i was in the military, going through basic training, i went to catholic church on sunday mornings because if you weren't in church, you'd have to do shit details for the few free hours the religious got while worshipping some god.

These comments have partly turned into a religious discussion - I personally, even though I am a Christian, don't believe people should be forced into it, everyone should make a decision for themselves, like I did. I wasn't forced into it, I chose it. But anyway, back to the picture...
It's a great pose, and a pretty nice description. It fits the Catholic Church and the Army well, though I don't think (as I've said) it applies to every type of church. Nice contrast of colours as well.
