Description
The bedroom was dark, nothing but a dim, crimson shadow cast across the room from the numbers on the alarm clock. The ceiling fan hummed monotonously, it's beaded draw-string tapping against the glass dome.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

A wisp of air escaped through your nostrils, and you rolled over onto your back for the umpteenth time. You squeezed your eyes closed, and even flailed an arm over them to further prevent them from opening; your lids absent of the weight of sleep.

You'd been trying to doze off for over an hour. You could feel the soreness of exhaustion down to your bones, but your mind was wandering every which way; the clock was not a soft night-light, but a blaring red sun keeping you awake, and the ceiling fan was droning on boorishly. The sheets were either suffocating you or not providing you with the warmth, and comfort you desired.

Both legs out, too cold;

both legs under, too hot.

In most circumstances, having one leg out and the other under was a perfect solution. However, tonight, you were having trouble even making that work, as you just felt too tangled up in the fabric.

You couldn't even find solace in the body next to you, and God forbid you wake him up. You'd never hear the end of it, should it be at this moment or the next morning.

Usually it was Levi who suffered from insomnia, but he handled it much better than you. In fact, you couldn't recall a time you ever felt or heard the man physically struggle. He either came to bed later, busying himself with paperwork or household duties, or, and this was most likely to appease your snuggly moods, lie still on his back until the Sandman came for him.

Why the roles apparently switched were unknown to you, and you didn't have the same patience as Levi. You whispered a curse in spite of him, once again rolling on your side and much more aggressively than you intended.

"Do you mind?"

The irritation in his tone was obvious, leading you to believe that he may have been awake for several minutes.

You looked over your shoulder, barely able to make out the silhouette of his back.

"I can't sleep."

"No shit," he mutter sharply. "Still, that sounds like your fucking problem."

"Gee, thanks for all your help," you grumbled, smashing your face back against the pillow.

A moment of silenced passed between the two of you, the boiling anger in the pit of your stomach from Levi's insensitivity adding another layer to your already uncomfortable situation. There was no way you were cuddling with him now.

The feeling subsided over time, your toiled mind twisting it into guilt for waking him in the first place. He had a right to be grouchy, being that it was the first time he'd fallen asleep at a reasonable time in months.

But did he really have to snap?

Your brows quivered under the pressure it took to keep your eyes closed, and your knees began to ache from being kept tucked together. You swallowed nervously, and even cringed as you carefully adjusted your position so not to disturb the beast.

The bed creaked as you rolled to your other side, and the sheets rustled as you stretched out your legs. Levi didn't acknowledge your turn, but as you went to sigh you choked. You caught the cough in your throat, attempting to swallow it back down, but failed the short-lived battle.

Stifling the cough only made it come out much harsher, and the sheer volume was enough to wake a neighborhood, let alone Levi.

The bed shifted as his posture went rigid with frustration, and it wasn't long before he shot up and clicked on the table-lamp. You squinted against the orange light, even with Levi's naked torso shielding most of it, and the asphyxiating attack ceased once your eyes met with his glowering stare.

He didn't say anything for several, long seconds and it terrified you. There was a domineering gleam within his steel-colored irises, and it was enough to make you scoot an inch or two away.

Levi caught your wrist, "Where the hell do you think you're going, brat?"

"N-nowhere," you gulped. "I mean... Maybe I should go out to the sofa."

"Tch... So, I can hear the television at an unreasonable volume?"

"Levi... I'm sorry, I'm just not--"

"Tired?"

You frowned as the man sighed, using his free hand to run through his onyx, bed-headed tresses. Without warning, he tugged you up against him, your palm slapping against his chest for balance. Heat spread through your cheeks as he inclined his head toward yours, a deep whisper caressing the shell of your ear,

"Guess I'll just have to wear your ass out."
