Hey! This was a shitload of fun to make
I was thinking about how creepy it would be if in the future, people start neglecting their real bodies to exclusively live in downloaded indistinguishably real simulations. There would be all kinds of interesting philosophical debates to have, and loads of conflicting opinions on the technology. It's an idea I might explore more, especially if people dig it.

i can relate to this...
I've been single for so long that I started to sleep more, letting my body fall into a deep slumbering state. There, a man often waits for me and I'm in his arms, feeling warm, wanted, safe, and complete. Nothing else seems to matter anymore... then I wake up to this empty hell around me. People say that I will find someone lately, but having only one boyfriend in 2005, which lasted for about a month, I'm really beginning to have my doubts... I wish I can neglect my reality and go back to that dream...

Ah, there is a movie from 2009 with Bruce Willis, called "Surrogates" that sort of touches the topic (it's Bruce Willis so obviously it has to be action, but still). Perhaps it might serve as inspiration?

this piece is great and deep. when i think about a world with those simulations i think how if you fall in love for real everything changes and guilt, fear and other emotions make a false reality as harsh as true reality.

I think it is happening right now. Sort of.
Just think how much time do we spend on computers, social networks etc... Sometimes we are just bodies walking around, absolutely closed people unable to communicate with each other (except texting, phoning, messaging...).
We have our alter egos everywhere over internet, pretending, playing, lying and cheating.
Sorry, I see it this way at the moment. Heartsick...

My first thought was that it was someone in a hospital, like a cancer patient maybe--either way, I think everyone can relate to the loneliness of wishing there was somebody beside you while you sleep!

Beautiful piece and I absoluetely love the concept behind it. Technology is taking over everything and many people would probably prefer virtual reality over everyday reality.

it reminds me of this movie...i forgot the title but it pretty much circles around this topic as well.
basically the movie was about how criminals/low-class people have to work as 'avatars' for the higher-class to do rpgs for them. some end up being online prostitutes while others -- the convicts -- become fighters for shooting games that actually cost someone's life.
haha still...somehow i do believe that with the improvement of technology...i don't think this situation is very far from what we're in now...

...It'll likely be that way within a decade or so at the rate things are going (or maybe I'm just too cynical these days, lol). This work has a very Matrix feel to it!
...There was a book written some time ago called 'The Plug-in Drug': I'd recommend it if you can track down a copy.

Good topic, and beautiful artwork. Since we feel our life in the form of electric signals, are the source of those signal the reality? Isn't the same life experience if we live in a simulation? The events, people, feelings, toughts and reaction are still geniune, so what's more real? A fake, but perfect world made for ourselves, or a real one, with all it carries along? Nice questions. Maybe for some, simulation would be better, and we already see this kind of behaviour everyday, Internet.
Personal fact: I found years ago a girl here on dA, and when we finally met in real life (like, yesterday) nothing changed. It's like we always were frequenting each other. Like a brain link. Internet can be this. The last frontier maybe? The connection of souls? I like to think so.

Interesting the comments below, but what drew me to this piece was that it reminded me of my life latelly. I'm an avid roleplayer and damn, I can picture myself fading in a room while my roleplaying alter ego, with her beautiful and never aging virtual body, enjoys life in my place.

One day with the way technology is going, I think it will be a real issue. Heck, on a small scale it already is. We are so tuned into phones and the internet, creating profiles to our liking, etc. Fantastic piece, I love the colors and the whole theme of it! Well deserved DD, congratulations.

Holy !@#$ that's nice, it gives me a kind of Matrix idea although in the Matrix they only have a jack plugged in the head, only when they are "Reborn" they have jacks in the back and arms. Still very nice work, I can see why people prefer VR since you can be whatever you want there rather than reality where it's so dark and cold you can barely accomplish the things you want. Very very well done.
