Description This is my work Tesseract Generator redone in fine point... I think it is a genuine improvement over the pencilled version and it was a great exercise to boot.

I probably should have taken on something a little less intricate for my first inkwork in a while.. this took a lot more time that expected, but I think it paid off. To date, I don't think I've actually ever seen a tesseract generator... so I guess that is something. lolz.

I hope you all enjoy it!

I can't believe I didn't leave a comment when I first favorited this. I guess I figured everything had already been said.

At any rate, this gives the DevArt community as a whole something to aspire to. Excellent work.

Thats why I prefer squares. All you need is a saw, a block of wood, water level, plane and a reasonably skilled carpenter. This seems much more complicated and I don't think it would fit in my toolbox.

I have to say I like this piece, firstly because of the level of detail, but secondly and more importantly in my mind...how you managed to keep it all neat and proper. It all makes sense, each pipe leads somewhere and each valve and instrument and glass bubble and switch and button....they all look similar and are connected in a very organised fashion.

I just have two questions:
Where does the tesseract pop out?...and
Where is the on/off switch?

Great work.

thanks.

That is one of the best compliments I have ever received, and means a lot more to me where this particular work is concerned...

I tried very hard to come up with a concept that was uniquely me... so to have you say that... makes me very happy.

It's awesome, so many details! How long did it take for you to make it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milleniumsentry In reply to aerphis [2006-09-03 17:30:50 +0000 UTC]

I am really glad you like it. It took a while...

I worked on it for about two weeks.. half an hour to an hour and a half per night... (sometimes longer. *guilty grin*) and arrived at the pencilled version.. I scanned it, lightened the opacity of it to about... 10%.. and printed it out... then worked on it for about a 8-9 days inking it.. again bout an hour a night on average... all said and done.. between 20-30 hours...

I think the time involved is the only thing that would keep me from doing this sort of thing over fractal work. I just don't draw very fast unfortunately.

*milleniumsentry -- something like this is bound to take at least that long. When you draw for an extended time, your left (usually dominant) brain hemisphere gets "bored" because it's tedious, and it switches blood flow to the right hemisphere, which handles artistic functions much better.

The right side of the brain also doesn't keep track of time as well as the left side, though, so if you're ever drawing for what seems like 20 minutes and you "wake up" and realize it's been 3 hours, that's the explanation.

Cool, huh?

I really like the Tesseract Generator, but IMHO, it needs a lot more shading to give more of an "illusion of depth" to the overall picture.

The next one planned will be in 3d. This was more a doodle gone haywire than anything and my meager drawing skills could never deliver what was in my head...

I think pens should come with an undo button. I'd be a lot more comfortable shading away.

plastikmaniac In reply to milleniumsentry [2008-10-22 07:58:05 +0000 UTC]

Practice, practice, practice!
Anyway, this doodle is pretty complex. Since you've scanned it and outlined it already, why not print out a high-contrast edit of the whole thing and shade that sucker up?

He had a very nice one on his front page.I guess he has moved it into the gallery. It is not the same name, just the same complexity of machinery.
