yet another old character of mine who's gone through COUNTLESS revamps, although this is the most recent and the last, because i liiiiiike. and, finally, this random revamped dude HAS A NAME D: wow. and... haha, a story. *milo2's devwatchers run for the hills*

ladies and gents, i'd like you to meet zachenstil, or zach to his coworkers (pronounced with little or no german accent, because none of his coworkers are german...). zachenstil is his code name (which he chose himself, making sure it's a word unlikely to be confused with anything else), and means "zigzag", according to my medieval art textbook XD

zach is a shapechanger, nicknamed a "shifter" by those familiar with him. he works for a generic law enforcement unit as hired muscle, when he's in the field, although occasionally he gets sucked into filing paperwork. it's unclear whether zach was enlisted or decided to work there himself, and it's even less clear whether he was born this way or created in some lab's basement. the guys down the hall have a bet running, on whether zachenstil is really an alien. it's a fact that he has no family, or no one he considers such, and he generally doesn't attach himself to others.

in his natural state, or closest to it (rumour has it that his 'natural state' is completely shapeless), zach has long white-blonde hair, grey eyes, and a very sexually ambiguous figure. he's only referred to as 'he' because he wants to be taken seriously; zachenstil is actually sexless, having no need or desire to reproduce.

zach isn't very friendly. there's no way around it; the closest he gets to affection is throwing a tantrum in your presence. if you piss him off, expect to find your office looking like a hurricane passed through. it's rather obvious, however, that zach is very insecure when it comes to friendship, and although he doesn't display affection, he presses your buttons constantly as a way to test whether you'll keep coming back. you may have noticed his pretty face; it's sort of a way for him to attract friendly attention, because he understands how beauty can draw people. if you get any closer, though, don't think for a minute that he's going to let you know he appreciates it; on the contrary, the closer you get, the crankier he gets. it's The Test, see?

now, zach's insecurity can run pretty deep. he works with humans and walks around as one, although the jury's still out on whether he's human or not. DNA tests are fuzzy, and without them it's safe to assume that he isn't human. his view, however, is that he's just a guy with a particular talent. he can do something nobody else can, yes, but so could einstein, and nobody called HIM a freak. so when a coworker brings up this argument, zach flies off the handle pretty easily. after one of these arguments, in fact, zach got into an epic I CAN SO FIT IN IF I TRIED mood, and leaves. just leaves. for weeks, no one at work can find him. it would be difficult, given his 'particular talent'.

during his time away, zach became a little boy and was taken in by your average family. he grew quite attached to them, and it's likely he was on his very BEST behaviour with them, seeing as they didn't kick him out on day one. zach's secret wish is to be somebody's son, have someone to take care of him rather than assume he's invincible because he's not normal. but, sadly, a few weeks later, their house caught fire as they slept, and zach was the only one to survive. he shows up back at work the next morning and never says a word to anyone about where he was, although the more observant ones eventually put two and two together. they never say anything about his time away, but sometimes they catch him staring blankly at children around the city, and they know.

zachenstil's age is indeterminate.
he likes hot drinks, particularly coffee, and tends to drink several mugs of the stuff in one sitting. he doesn't really get that caffeine buzz that should follow ten cups of black coffee, but it has been determined, the hard way, that alcohol and unusual drugs can reeeeeeeeeeeeally screw with him. all it takes is a bit of beer, some spiked punch, and OH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING??
his favourite flavour is strawberry. he loathes gummi candies with a fiery passion (he's been known to throw them at people on hallowe'en).
when in the field, zach uses the name 'john doe' when he needs to sign anything or get a hotel room. he thinks it's funny.
pulling an all-nighter, for him, means staying awake for a whole week. he doesn't need as much sleep as his coworkers.
he enjoys industrial music and spiteful rap. none of those mainstream product-placement jokes. ANGRY rap.
oh yes, and he's standing in an elevator with a young secretary and a guy who LOVES his job.
