Another burning question:

How the HELL can he keep from flashing everyone in that tiny little scrap of clothing while running around?

Have you read the book? Tarzan doesn't have a beard because he learned how to shave.

I've also said the same thing about The Wizard of Oz. It was a book before it was a movie, and the book is way better than the movie.

That is a very good point. I'd suggest that he shaved but then again that brings up the question, why hasn't he cut his hair if he knows how to shave?

Better yet, if he lives wth apes, why does he wear a loincloth? And also, where did he get it? :/

In the book he learns to skin leopards and wears the hide

Actually, he tried to use a lioness' hide and hung it on a tree but to his dismay it turned hard and stiff, for he did not know how to tan leather. It was during his occasional slaughter of native negroes that he, to his delight, came across a loincloth from a corpse. He felt the need to cover himself because he saw humans wearing clothes from the books he discovered in the house where he was born and where his parents died. He realised his superiority over the animal kingdom and wanted to physically defer himself from them.

Haha! I was just wondering the same thing! But I'mm pretty sure its because beards would scare little kids... they scare me... and I'm 16. No offence to people who have beards, I'm sure you don't look creepy on you.

In Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan of the Apes," the first book in the series, he learns to use his father's knife to shave the hair from his face so that he will no longer resemble his simian brethren as much. He does this because he realizes that he is a man and not an ape, which he learned from the various books that were in his parents' cabin in the jungle where they were marooned. That should clear things up a bit, I think. If you get the opportunity, you should read the books. I'm only on the first one so far, but they're very good.

I've already read the first three. Edgar Rice Burroughs was a freaking GENIUS. It's nice to meet a fellow fan. So to speak.

I only feel that way about the John Carter film. It was total Hollywood-ed, cookie-cutter crap. I loved the animated Tarzan film, though. They don't screw up the stories that they re-tell, they just make them more family friendly while still teaching important moral lessons.

As far as the beard, theres a genetic code that prevents facial and a lot of times body hair. Most Native Americans have it. As for the wild-man-skirt, I wondered the same thing when he was rescuing Jane XD

In the book, he shaved with a knife.

and also for your second question, he kinda did flash every one around. He was naked until he stole someone else's loincloth...I don't know what's Disney's cover-up for that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Marrybell25 [2012-05-25 06:11:07 +0000 UTC]

i want to know about the facial hair too but i know how he didn't flash people in his loin cloth. loin cloths are just one long cloth that goes between the legs. rope of some kind is tied around the waist and lays on top of the cloth. the front and back of the cloth are then free to flap down over the rope. (that is hard to explain. i hope that was understandable.)

It's obvious he paid Harry Potter to give him a potion, then he went to Narnia for a goat hair, which he eventually got, then drank it, danced around a fire, and BOOM! No beard.

Well in the book he starts shaving immediately because he takes pride in coming from a hairless race, and he thinks facial hair would make him look more like an ape.

I have heard that some ethnic groups are not able able to grow beards. So I think it's some kind of trait he got from his mother (I think his father was Irish or something).

Raygreens In reply to WinterRafferty [2012-02-21 16:50:09 +0000 UTC]

well then my best theory is either diet or some kind of mutation in the genes. Although native Americans aren't the only group of people who can't grow beards.

oh yea, it was the mom that was irish not the dad. I haven't seen that movie in years. I think it has something to do with genes or diet then.

I read the first book and it actually addressed that, lol. Apparently when he started growing a beard at first he was happy because it made him look more like an ape. Later on though, when he sees Jane and Clayton for the first time he wanted to look more like a man so he shaved it off with a knife.
