Description
My Minecraft build of Taipei 101, built by me with no editors used.
Scale is 1:3 of the real building because of the 256 block height limit.
As I progressed to the top, I ran out of space to build the spire properly, I had to redesign the base twice before building skyward.
Tower is built mainly of stained glass, quartz & iron blocks.
Update: Now in 2560 x 1440p
Info:
Taipei 101 is a landmark skyscraper standing in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. This magnificent structure is a prime example of traditional Asian design & symbolism, infused with the modern age with advanced construction methods. The tower is currently the third tallest in the world, & the tallest building in Eastern Asia. The tower stands at a height of 509 meters, has a floor count of 101 including five basement floors.
Construction of Taipei 101 started in 1999 after a year of planning, the design demanding that the tower be of Asian architectural aesthetic. Structurally, the tower resembles a pagoda, a multi-tiered tower common to China & Japan, used to contain relics of the Buddha. In addition, it had to be able to cope with strong winds & earthquakes which frequently take place in the south-east Asian region.
The tower features many restaurants & food courts, offices, observatories, an art gallery, a shopping center, & super-fast internet connectivity. It's lifts are the fastest in the world, able to ascend at a speed of 60 kph. Also, it's tuned mass damper is the world's largest, being 18 feet in diameter supplimented by two smaller ones, help to minimise swaying in high winds.
Taipei 101 has also been designed to be energy efficient & with a low carbon footprint compared to other skyscrapers. This makes it one of the most sustainable buildings in the world due in large part to it's design & advanced technology.
After five years of work, the tower was completed in 2004, it offically opened on New Year's Eve that year with a spectacular fireworks display, & every year it still plays host to such displays of celebration.
Taipei 101 is an unmistakable symbol of a confident nation, one that embraces tradition & modernisation, & is a marvel of modern architecture.

As someone who's been to Taipei 101 multiple times, this is really accurate! Great job! :>
(relooking through your gallery because I'm bored haha)

Why thank you! This was my second skyscraper ever & I think I outdone myself with this one, watching the Super Skyscrapers episode about it really helped too
Sure feel free to nose around: some descriptions are longer than others if you fancy a read

I've seen a few of your more modern skyscraper builds and they explain for themselves why I don't do builds of skyscrapers. I don't like to do things that are out of scale (Hence why the Great Pyramid of Giza was such a pain to build) xD

That's a good point: skyscrapers are hindered for the build height limit of 256 blocks which means everything seems compressed. I don't plan to do more skyscrapers in the future. I bet building the Great Pyramid was tedious but I saw it, it's perfection personafied!

Oh trust me the Pyramid was a PAIN, at first I thought it wasn't gonna be too bad, so I just measured out the height and built a wire frame out of sandstone. That was when I realized how big it really was, but at that point it was too late to go back so I had to complete it, I like to think the effort was worth it though xD

I wouldn't be too happy about it, but at least in Minecraft towers don't collapse even with large holes blasted in them. Or even Withers would to tremendous damage to anything around them, with anything glass they have no problem with.

When I see such awesome Minecraft structures, I feel like the things I build pale in comapison. I made a "Tower of Zot" almost all out of Oak wood and kept building it higher and higher until the game wouldn't allow me to place any more blocks. But it's not as cool as your tower. Did you make it in creative mode?

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to ColinBenson [2014-09-20 04:30:12 +0000 UTC]
I built this in Creative, yes, I had to 'sculpt"the tower to a level that I was satisfied with. And the ability to fly in Creative is a big help too.
