Description
Having spent a considerable amount of time on this subject, Professor Halligan will be presenting today the essential information when dealing with the Aberrations known as Rattlers. "One of the first questions anyone asks is why are they called Rattlers, some students astutely point out the fangs and general reptilian features of the Aberrations, and relate them to the recently rediscovered American Rattlesnakes, well this is a fairly interesting answer, it is doubtful that the Rosemont Corporation had access to Rattlesnakes during the gene splicing of the proto Rattlers. The answer is extremely simple, especially after you hear them for a first time, they are able to produce rattle noises. Thus giving them the generally accepted name. Interestingly, the proper name given to them by the Rosemont Corporation is the "Viperidaedens" or in English, teeth of the Viper family. Which fits too."
The Adult Viperidaedens, or also commonly known as the Skull Caps. They are what most people think of when they hear about the Rattlers, this is largely in part due to the media, they are commonly used as stock villains and monsters goons in television shows, movies and video games, and it's easy to see why. They stand at around 6'4" on average, with some reaching 6'8", but at that point in their life cycles they would have already specialized into a sub group of the Viperidaedens. How smart is a Rattler, they are brutish and head strong, but they aren't stupid, this is really important to learn about. Many students think that they can outsmart a Rattler, but like with any creature, underestimating it is suicidal. So always be alert around them when on a expedition or whatever kind of mission you may be on.
Do Rattlers suicide charge in the face of overwhelming odds. This is a interesting question and honestly it's hard to give a precise answer either way. From what we have been able to see and observe, there are conditions in which Rattlers will fall back and also conditions in which they will fight to the last Rattler. It's likely that it depends on many variables, regardless always be ready to face a relentless attack from them and be grateful if they do fall back.
Are Rattlers easy to blind. Given the big optical lens they have, it would appear to be case, unfortunately this is also a matter of whether the Rattler in question decides to blink or close the optic. Yeah it can blink, think of it like a cameras shutter. This means they can adjust the amount of light that come into the optic, allowing them to venture out of the dark sewers they are usually found in. On this point, you won't find juveniles out side of the dark places in the Gulch, they're central eye, which will later be augmented by the optic is extremely sensitive to light, and you can leave them blinded for a considerable amount of time with a simple flash light.
The mysterious Myriadaen Hive Empress, as with many of the Hive Queens. We don't know much about them, Rosemont Corporation did an amazing job at erasing any and all records pertaining to the creation and development of the Hive Queens. What little we have been able to learn has come almost exclusively from Site 33, other wise known as CONEY base, yep the very same one where in right now. Don't look shocked, this is my favorite part about this. As I'm sure you've all heard, during the Penumbra Wars an outsider to city came in and essentially dominate a whole Rattler Hive, it would only be revealed later but he had killed the Hive Queen and extracted their Core. Using it to bend the Hive to his will. After he was taken down by a one of the Federal Government’s Varangians, the core was destroyed and with it the Rattlers began to go feral. Well more then usual. The Ministry, the Federal, and Doubleyou Corp located this now dead Hive. We built CONEY base on it to serve as a research facility as well as a military school for the Special forces of the city.
But I'm guessing you want to learn more about the Hive Queens body that we found no? Of course you do. Measurements wise the Hive Queen is a staggering 10 meters tall, well okay length wise, but if she decide to stand up! The exoskeleton of the Hive Queen is extremely durable, which makes the fact that the outsider managed to take them out very impressive.
On Jar Heads and Praetors.
These Rattlers have reached the point in their natural life cycles in which one could fully consider them matured. Jar heads are at the very least a half a foot taller then the average Skull Cap, with the Praetors reaching the limits of a Rattlers size at 7ft tall! Impressive no? Now why the distinction, simple anything above this point is considered a Grey Jack. These monsters Rattlers are old, and they have essentially lost all Cognitive reasoning.
