Thanks!! Even in my old film days, I was learning how to use light to my advantage.

Killer shot. Love the detail with the head light and both the ditch lights (which is hard to achieve at high aperture).

Thanks! This was back from my old film days. I am looking for a night, hopefully in the few days off I have now to re shoot it in digital.

Really awesome.

Awesome! The hardest part about these shots this time of year is the cold.

If I had taken this photo, my car would've been idling two steps away.

Yeah It was about 2 degrees. Me and Dave just sat in his car after we set up our tripods and then I watched the signals and when they changed to signify an oncoming train we got out and set the cameras back on and prepared for the run-by.

Nice shot! I love doing long exposures with my Nikon D40.
Like this [link] and this [link]
I've never tried with a train though, it's a great idea.

Those are nice! Tell ya what, if you can find a really short train that will show the front end and the back end in the time of your exposure, the FRED EOT device (The flashing red light) will make a cool effect.

I'll keep that in mind, we do have a good number of trains around here.

hmmmm you would be in CSX country right? You are good if they decide to actually keep thier trains on the rails......

I hoped this was the country Peru But as i noticed, you encounter copies of countries and cities everywhere in the US. i'd wonder why people ain't more original, or has the name of this hill a historic name in connection with a native american tribe?

Actually I believe it was a railroad designated location to allow for schedule keeping on the timetable back before they had communications and GPS.... Also for time keeping in passenger service. So I guess it is a bit historical. And for as long as I have been around, It has always been know as Peru Hill and Peru Road...... I will check into it and get back to you though!

LOL You can do it too! If you have a camera that will take a long exposure, (5+ seconds) set it up on a tripod and then set out next to a busy intersection or the tracks and then using the self timer as to not wobble the camera, take the photo.

Cold? Does it even get cold enough down there for you to get that down there? We have already seen a temperature down to -10 F here the Wednesday before thanksgiving! That is a pretty decent camera. Fuji is a good brand.

Hey... you become acclimated. So that when it drops down to 40 degrees… its COLD. When its always in the 90-100’s seeing a temp lower than 80 generally invokes the thought of all of us pulling out our β€œwinter coats” which really just consist of Sweatshirts and light jackets. No marshmallow jackets for us down here.

Furthermore, last year we had snow

miniwyo In reply to PureSunShine919 [2007-12-05 19:14:37 +0000 UTC]

hahhahahahaha But how long did that snow stay before it melted? When I was over there in Phoenix it got down to the mid 60s at night and I was getting funny looks from people because I didn't have more than just my normal t-shirt! And at that time we were lucky to have a high of 60 here!

Well it lasted a Day, but they did shut all the bridges down because people in arizona are morons.

I used to live in IL so I know what cold temps are. you will get weird looks if its 60 and you're not wearing a sweater or coat of some kind.

Try being here in mid July though... seriously - Hell with humidity. 110-120 degree temps and 50-80% Humidity.

icky.
