Description
Beware the large-sized file!I intentionally kept it at a width of 600 pixels at 72 dpi because I don't love when a LONG guide is WIDE as well.
Personal preference. Don't mind me. *^_^*
This is the step-by-step of the orange plaid bodice I made: [link] [link]
I hope it's of any use ever!

Grand question! So the tops of the U and the bottom of the U should measure to be roughly almost around your ribcage (I prefer it to be not quiiiite the same size, that way you can get some fun lacing options. But it you want it to lay flush, you'd measure it to be completely the same measurement as your ribcage.
...if that makes sense...

If you have any trouble, send me a note with your rib-cage measurement and I'll see if I can be of sizing help.

I can hook you up with a step-by-step in the coming weeks. I've got a lot of outfits to make for an upcoming Renaissance faire, so I'll just remember to take pictures of the process! Ideally, I'll link you soon. :-P

Interesting tutorial
I might try to make something like this in thick rawhide leather at some point...

That would be really neat!
If you do that, either avoid making it double sided or use a VERY lightweight material on the inside so as not to jam up a sewing machine or add unnecessary weight/bulk to the project.
Grommets hold very well in leather, so you'll be a-okay doing that.
If you do create it, send a picture along my way, please!

I know a place where I can basically get a square yard of thick 3-4mm leather - like, boot leather and such
I could make the bodice in one piece - all the detail work would just be carvings, etchings and other dohickies that'd be added on top
...just need someone to model for it so I can get some measurements to make it first

What a shame it is that you are all the way in Denmark. I would absolutely have wanted to help you with the measurements and modeling. But alas, I am bound to the USA.
Making the bodice all one piece would be highly recommended. So you;re thinking a tooling leather then so you can do some engraving? That would be very interesting!

I've made a good bit of LARP gear in that material already - so I'm well versed in how to work it.
Got my anvil, got my rivets, got my hole-puncher... good times

Happy to help! I hope this step-by-step serves you well.
I'd just addendum to sew the trim down before the bias tape goes down, as the bias tape is a wonderful way to hide the raw edges of any potentially fray-worthy trims.

I might be able to draft one up in the next week or so. For the most part, I set the measurements on my dressform and work out the basic shape from there. Do you have a size you're working in in particular?

Okay. Well my shirt size is 12-14 but i don't have exact measurements at the moment. If i had a pattern tohugh I could probably work itb out.
