Backstory:

From the day Calliope was born, she was always such a strange child. Rather than play with the other guppies, she scavenged for strange human things. Calliope would find meaningless objects, such as cans and bags and plastic toys, but sometimes she would find more interesting things. Rusty knives, sometimes even teeth if she was lucky. Bringing these things home tended to make people confused, or even grossed out. She even found a drowned rat once that had sunk to the bottom and presented it to her parents like she had just found gold. After that catch, small corpses became her favorite things to find, especially the skeletons. She was fascinated by it, and wanted to know their stories. They all died in different ways, and they were curious about how it happened.
Ever since then, she had a strange fascination with death, particularly deceased humans. She had seen them before, of course, but they never really knew much about them. It wasn’t that she wished they die often, it was more so to do with that fact that she wanted to know them, inside and out. Puffy and green, or even thin and dark purple. Many called her creepy, while other mers kept their distance from them, too uncomfortable to deal with her constant info-dumping about whatever she had managed to find out about people.

This made school her favorite in the world. Surrounded by others, learning new things together!! It was the best thing she could dream of!! Naturally, she tossed herself into her studies with enthusiasm, learning all she could. Mainly of course, it was majorly biology she was interested in. This even lead her into attending university straight after high school, with both of her moms supporting her financially and getting through her tuition together.
Her natural intelligence helped her through her four years surprisingly quick, eventually graduating and finding her own space. After those years in school, she instantly knew what she needed to do. She needed to be surrounded with more stories, more skeletons that could tell her what happened if she found the right signs. The police force is a complicated subject for many, even Callie, but they only focused on her work. Where some might gap at the constant stench of death, she embraced it. It helped that she was surrounded by fish her entire life, as her excuse went. She goes on her life, unsettling but happy in her life.
