Description I'm easily frustrated when it comes to making art. I think we all are. But no one truly understands the sheer agony of doing something worthwhile that isn't a piece of garbage -- literally.

My fursona hitting a tire and yelling, "ART!!" is a reference from The Muppet Show, when Gonzo goes to extreme lengths to show his demonstration of [performing] art... by hitting a rock and yelling, "ART!!"

[link]

So why am I hitting a tire instead of a rock? Sis and I got mixed up with our references he was eating a tire in another episode.

[link]

I honesty thought it was a tire, but the idea demonstrates clearly how easily discouraged I can be. (The only difference is that I KNOW I'm a good artist, whilst Gonzo is just a weirdo that makes Yoko Onno's stuff tamed.)

I dunno how else to explain this, what my mind goes through when I tell myself that I must get back to arting for my sake and my fans' sake. Mom understands, I think; she's the one who initiated this thought process when she commented in my last journal (about seriously getting back to drawing).

Let's just say this is what I'm usually struggling with inside myself these days. I know the cure for it, but I don't want to take it because of the fear of failure and sucking. Being lazy is much easier than getting started in my case.

P.S. You probably'll never see it, but I had a bitch of a time with it in the thumb sketches. That hammer's position drove me bonkers when I was figuring out how it's suppose to look on paper

*Sees you rapidity hitting a Tire yelling "Art" each time you hit it.* OUT, OUT...OUT!! *Begins pushing you out of the frame.* Hehe, I'm sorry you all had to see that, folks! Anyways, without further ado, let us continue with our feature presentation!

Lol, I understand the feeling. Its worst though when you THINK you have a great idea, then it turns out really bad.

Someone is about to find out why tires and hammers don't mix...

Mainly because someone got her references mixed up when remembering the Muppet Show

...I'm Guessing she's probably going to try to eat a rock next, huh?

A candy rock, maybe   Wait, are we talking about my muse (me) or my sister who got the reference mixed-up?

Talongrasp In reply to MiraKHall [2013-09-25 04:38:47 +0000 UTC]

Your muse, duh. Considering your sis WAS the one to get them mixed up in the first place! So, why not pull the Old, switch-a-roo?

Maybe if I redrew it, but you get the idea, anyway: frustration with doing something some folks may or may not call 'art'

Talongrasp In reply to MiraKHall [2013-09-25 06:16:50 +0000 UTC]

Well, there some people out there who consider things that aren't an art to actually BE an "art"! But, you may very well redraw it, if you like!

Oh, I know how it's to be frustrated like that... My frustration may be different, but for sure I can relate the quote "being lazy is much easier than getting started" to myself XD
I have tons of ideas, but when it comes to drawing something that I have in my mind... it takes me hours to figure out the pose I want to draw and the final result often differs from what I primary intended... if I do finsh it in the first place

Really nice idea with this one! I like her expression, I can almost hear that frustrated yelling

Tire or rock, it matters not.
It's awesome in concept. I think all artists feel that way. Kudos.

Hadn't you pointed out that hammer, I wouldn't have noticed. XD
Most of the time, confused references make for good inspiration, and you proved it with this one.

But really, you are a very decent artist, and I know how it feels to want to take the back drawer over staring up again.
Just take my 'empty closet' for example. >.>;

"Empty closet"? Is that a euphemism, or is your closet really that empty? No biggie, though, since mine is full with art-related supplies, BUT it has no door at the moment

Like my robot cheetah? Never mind that, you don't have to do it. I was just happy to get some ideas for something to draw. Do you still want the pic? The holidays are approaching...

Come to think of it, I believe there was another bit where Gonzo was trying to dismantle an old car with a mallet. THAT might have confused me a bit, too...

Ah, well, as others have obviously pointed out, it's a pretty poignant illustration of ALL our lives...

MamaLucia [2009-11-12 01:10:54 +0000 UTC]

It's absolutely lovely. And I richly deserve whatever annoyance you want to dish out to me for inspiring it.

And as for having the hammer rebound and hit you on the head for all your efforts -- that is just too close to the way things have been going for you, isn't it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MiraKHall In reply to MamaLucia [2009-11-12 01:57:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, some of the other Deviants were pointing it out -- apologetically. I kinda have to thank them for the heads-up, I guess.

MamaLucia In reply to MiraKHall [2009-11-12 02:04:51 +0000 UTC]

ummmm ... not so much commenting on the specific picture as your life in general. It seems as though, whenever you try to do your ART!!!!!!!, something comes along and hits you in the head to try to prevent you from doing it (9/11, Cedar Fires, our Unfortunate Event, and so on). You keep doing art, and life keeps hitting you in the head!!!

Well, just keep doing your art anyway. Gonzo would be proud!

MiraKHall In reply to MamaLucia [2009-11-12 02:07:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's a good analogy. It's just that I hadn't thought of it earlier this week, but it describes perfectly -- like what you said -- what I experience when I do ART. Serendipity does that to yas, y'know?

hehehe... I'm waiting for the companion piece that shows the hammer rebounding into her forehead. Please don't shoot me... that is the next 'anel' that I see for it.

MiraKHall In reply to SDarkheart [2009-11-11 17:52:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I haven't thought of that. That really demonstrates my deep aggravation with my art. No matter how much effort I put into it, it always comes flying back to me in a painful way.

Maybe that's why I haven't been arting for so long... aside from a year-old not-so-important-now family crisis.
