Ahhhh it feels so good to upload this. This picture is my most elaborate drawing to date. I worked on it starting late July while watching Steins;Gate, then stopped working on it (I was on vacation) until around August 15th. I finished it while watching Fate/Zero. To be honest, I don't think I ever fully concentrated on the piece while drawing it, I was always watching something or listening to music or at school listening to a teacher while I drew...but to be fair, some of my best pieces are done under those circumstances, like Victorian Geisha, which I drew during Driver's Ed.
The dimensions of the drawing are 12X9, I drew it on Borden & Riley #234 Paris Bleedproof paper for pens, and I used Copic Multiliners from .03-.3, various Pigma Microns, and a black Pentel slicci pen, .25

This picture is inspired by and depicting interpretations of Japanese Yokai. Explained on hyakumonogatari.com, the kanji for yokai is
妖 (yo) which means “mysterious, bewitching, unearthly, weird.” It doesn’t really have a scary nuance to it, but more of the attraction to something beyond the normal. It can be used in words like yoka (妖花) meaning an ethereally beautiful flower, or ayashii (妖しい) meaning bewitching or charming.
怪(kai) which means “mystery, wonder, strange.” Kai has more of a sense of horror, or the bizarre. It is the same kanji used in kaidan (怪談) meaning “weird tales” and kaiki (怪奇) meaning “bizarre, strange, outrageous.”

Put those two together and you get yokai妖怪, with a direct translation along the lines of “something that is otherworldly and strange yet captivating and appealing.” But direct translation of kanji almost never gives the full picture.

Simply put, Yokai are Japanese spirits and demons. In my picture, every creature here is based off of a type of yokai, ranging from the skeleton hand to the frog to the tiger, to the lamp with a big mouth and one eye. Of course, I didn't get them all, as there are many many different types of yokai just like in European folklore there are many types of fey.

The woman in the middle is wearing an obi in the front and a kimono with many layers. Her face is probably one of my least favourite parts in this picture. I don't like her face. It's crooked on how her head would be.
She is holding an opium pipe, (which doesn't mean that I'm endorsing opium here, kids) and I kinda tried to model her off of Yuuko Ichihara in XXXholic. (I love the character design but find the manga and anime to be droll...and very strangely proportioned.)

All in all, this piece was pretty fun to do and I hope you like it.
