THEMEAUDITION
Personality: She walks a fine line of True Neutral to Neutral Evil. Her party members have a strong influence on her decisions, and the world she lives in means every man (and woman) for themselves. She can be the calm observer, and go with the flow. Her hardened exterior is her war face, and beneath it, she may just be a normal girl, or at least--that’s what she wants. She can blush and stutter and apologize, as well as throw back shade as good as she gets. Her knowledge falls short with her inexperience of the world, and she defers to better judgement. But when a decision is made that defies her needs or interests, she will speak up about it, and her party has definitely enhanced her ability to be a stubborn brat. Her trust is hard to earn, but will play along if it coincides with her goals. With previous experience all that stands to guide her, she may be tolerant of you, but she has a quick draw and a quicker shot if it looks like she may be deceived again.
There are few things in the world left that she cares for, and nothing can stand in her way.
She's considered very unusual in Murktomb--women, and young ones at that, don't travel around the world, nor do they work for the king, or take up arms with a band of miscreants. Still though she enjoys more classically 'feminine' things than a modern tomboy. She has plenty of dresses and will probably not stick to one outfit for too long--they get ruined fast enough that she needs to change. (Nothing skimpy or short, though. Ankles are a bit scandalous after all) Her friend got her into drinking Strawberry wine whenever there is a relaxing evening at a tavern. And like most young girls, she's concerned with her looks and how she comes across--but not enough to bother trying to change anyone's opinion. Actions speak louder than words, most times, and the party's influence definitely defers to 'shoot first, ask later'. This leaves her rather inquisitive and buzzing with questions about what's happening. Surely this tower can hold such answers?
History: Piper is not your average little girl. She always wanted to sing, and though she grew up poor with her parents, they were able to send her off to train with a bard tutor. She traveled and learned magic, and how to infuse it within her voice. Once finished training, and an adult at 16, she returned home-- and when performing on the streets didn’t help put food on the table, she joined the service of the king. She was put in a group and they set off across the land to take care of deeds for the crown--ones that the public need not know about. She learned how to use her shortbow and even more magic to defend herself on their journey.
In the year since, she has been betrayed, attacked, deceived. She’s helped in rebellions of entire cities and wars against overpowering armies, taken on foes more experienced than herself, and seen horrors that the natural world wants left forgotten.
To say she is desensitized is an understatement.
Abilities: Piper is primarily a bard. She sings to empower her allies and inspire them in combat. She also has a handful of spells to assist her: mainly things that make her harder to hit, but parts of her magic seem to be malfunctioning when in the Tower. Being an archer in the party, her main goal is to not get hit, and hope the threat is mitigated before the heavy fire comes her way. After a rough few months in the group, she adjusted her style and became a stronger archer, being quick to draw and fire, as well as power up her shortbow to do a few magical things--anything to help take down anyone on the wrong end of her arrow.
Bane of Undead: With Murktomb crawling with as many undead and grotesque creatures, it stands that a few arrows don’t pack as much of a punch. Bane powers up against any undead or spirit, the normal damage feeling triple as painful, and piercing an undead’s tough skin.Force: Much with undead, arrows can’t cut it against the heavily armored soldiers and goliaths that stand to block the path of the party. Force fires off and even though it does as much damage as an ordinary arrow, it phases through the armor and thick skin of some foes that usually have some resistance against damage of any kind. Even incorporeal spirits can’t dodge these shots.
Many Shots Fired: Piper is quick enough to let loose a hail of arrows. While that comes with its own hazards with not having time to aim perfectly, she’s learned to adjust for the subsequent shots-- just a little more to the left, and a little up…Her damage output isn’t great, but when you’re shooting enough, taking off tiny chunks, and staying out of an enemy’s range, a slow fight can turn deadly. When caught off guard, or in an up-and-personal fight, she’s at a disadvantage. She knows how to use smaller swords, but vastly prefers her bow, and a sword can’t help when you’re already getting punched with a bow in your hands.
Weaknesses: Murktomb is set much farther in the past--all things can be explained with magic. The most technologically advanced thing now are pistols and a couple muskets- neither of which are things Piper knows how to use. Without much experience, she gets curious easily, and just as easily passes off phenomenon as magic she can't explain. Anything technology related is completely lost on her.
She isn't great in up close combat--she can use melee weapons, but her strength is that of a normal girl her size. Basically anything relying on strength she has disadvantage on. On the flipside, she's a bit of an escape artist--she might be easy to grab, but not easy to hold on to for long.
She will refuse any healing items or whatnot. She's pretty tough and is used to just shaking it off and getting her rest.
Her curiosity and inexperience makes her pretty easy to manipulate, but that doesn't make her completely stupid. Wisdom and intelligence are different enough, so just watch your back if she finds out she's been deceived.
"The bards were feared. They were respected, but more than that they were feared. ...If you'd pissed off some witch, then what's she gonna do, she's gonna put a curse on you... no big deal. You piss off a bard, and forget about putting a curse on you, he might put a satire on you. And if he was a skillful bard, he puts a satire on you, it destroys you in the eyes of your community... and if it's a particularly good bard, and he's written a particularly good satire, then three hundred years after you're dead, people are still gonna be laughing, at what a twat you were."
